After accidentally stumbling upon a video of Mechwarrior 4 game-play on Youtube, I just can't get over the fact how visually fluid and powerful LRM weaponry could look in MWO iteration. IMO

http://youtu.be/EJngwNlZcVw

Watch it for a few minutes after the specified mark.

Despite having very dated graphics, I think the missiles perform in much more "life"-like fashion and carry the weight behind them.

The missiles leave a concentrated trail of smoke.
Their movement is diverse and they can move all around the place, as you could see in the video.. They are not limited to vertical space as they are in MWO.
And they cause more, satisfying explosions.

When they are deployed or hit by, they give off the sense of force and damage.

Some people including me, have a problem with LRM particularly because they might obscure the vision during a continuous salvo (especially on slow mechs).
However from an external view, when they fly they look like a swarm of fire-flies, and when they hit they look a pack fire-crackers thrown at a mech.

So if the vision is going to be obscured regardless, I wish the missiles could at least look awesome...

What do you think?

They look like SSRMs in MWO? Only with more dated graphics?

This is just another stealth 'nerf LRM' post, isn't it.

The MWO missiles used to look cool. But that ended up interfering with game play so they changed it. I think they can still do somethings to make it look better

For example not having all the missile fire at the exact same time. Causing them to fire in exact parallel plane with eachother. Vary the fire times by a milisecond to get some variation there

What you should really be asking for is MW4's walking animations.....

I didn't even play MW4. I accidentally stumbled upon the video, and now talk about my opinion of how visuals of LRM compare , and if they could look better.

Don't like the topic, don't read it or reply to it.

Vent your butthurt somewhere else.

The guy in this MW4 video is even worse than a low ELO pug player in MWO.

MWLL had great missile effects, especially on the srms.

MW4 did have some nice treatment of LRMs. I like the visuals of MWO, but what MW4 did wonderfully was reduce any LRM salvo into "chunks" of 5. Each chunk of missiles were treated as a single object, and would hit a single component. Each AMS would knock out one chunk of missiles. So if you had an LRM15, it fired three "chunks" and would deal three focused 5 point hits, however a single AMS would knock out an entire 5 point cluster per launcher fired, meaning only two of the three 5 point chunks would hit an AMS equipped mech.

Oh how I adored the Raven in CB with streaks... this misses fired and hit like a sledge hammer... you felt like they really were missiles.

Though that did look kinda awesome, it is still somewhat different from what I was pointing out in MW4 video.

And I really wish we just had a quality of rockets over quantity.

What's that? A fully functioning thirdperson view that doesn't completely screw you over?

That's more towards Thunderbolts or Arrow IV, possibly Cruise Missiles. LRMs never been depicted as similar to that.

For LRMs that would be a bit overkill (unless you mean the whole swarm of missiles should have that effect)
Would be amazing if the Arrow IV missiles look like that if we ever get those.

As you can see I don't know that much about the lore of Mechwarrior (though it is extremely interesting and fleshed out).

Actually, I remember looking up some mech on sarna and it had Arrow IV in its inventory.

I am even kinda surprised they still didn't implement those large powerful rockets into the game, even though they are part of the arsenal.

I so want to see those Arrow IV/Thunderbolt stuff :(

If i am not mistaken, there is also equip-able artillery pieces.

We can't have any nice graphics in MWO, or destructible terrain, or collisions

because,

someone with a low end PC that can barely run the game might start lagging and quit.
