#2 Matchmaker punishes higher ELO players. There is no incentive to take creative, fun, silly builds because you will end up getting beat like a drum. This means 90% of the mechs in your mechbay go unused. Go meta or go home.

This is the main reason I play so little now. Most of my friends are long gone. I end up pugging. I experience non stop elo hell. It's not worth taking anything less than my best chasis', and even then its a struggle to have even or consistent games. Its become almost always a roll / stomp, one way or the other. On the winning end, there isnt much fun in the match, as it boils down to who can chase the enemy mechs fastest for the kill. On the losing end its all kinds of frustration and disbelief.

Theres a couple close games sprinkled in there, but most are stomps one way or the other.

It seems worse than usual over the month. Were there changes to MM that I'm not aware of ?

You forgot one important thing. CBT was balanced on random chance. Video games, don't do that. Lasers are hit scan. They land pointed where they are going. Not suddenly missing or hitting something they weren't pointed at. A turn in CBT was balanced against a duration of 60 seconds. Can you imagine how this game would be if you could only choose to shoot some or all of your guns once a minute to random miss and heat and crit and fall and everything else?

CBT = TT?

Oh I understand what you mean which is why the game needs things like double armour values because we get to aim instead of rolling the dice. I'm just mainly against silly mechanics like ghost heat and gauss charging which were put in place because the initial balance of this game was all wrong. Like putting a plaster over a major wound. It might stop the bleeding but it's not going to help heal the wound.

My complaint is the maps. I think the lack of both quality and quantity are my issues.

Meh. Elite Dangerous was the final straw for me. And there I have been ever since. Lots of good points, OP. I think the ever decreasing TTK with quirks (instead of addressing real issues), lack of maps (twenty to thirty more would be nice with MW:LL style map gameplay) and horrible matchmaking are my biggest gripes.

Most of the people I knew that played stopped because it just got repetitive and somewhat boring. Didn't have to do much with bugs, getting stuck, meta builds (which I don't see often anyhow) etc.

I really only agree with #7:

#7 Economy is too punishing. takes way too long to earn C-Bills.

Other stuff is more forum fodder, IMHO.

And I would add that the new player experience is crap. Glad I am not a new player, but too bad that PGI does not seem to care to add new players... I guess we will just play till it can no longer bring 24 players together for a match...

I have been playing since closed beta, as has most of my unit. This post is not meant as a bash PGI thread, but rather an insight on why most people I know no longer play this game. This is an condensed list of the complaints that were expressed when I asked people why they no longer played.

So without further ado......

#1 Piss poor map design
The maps are too small. Information warfare/ scouting is not needed and plays no real part in the game. CW maps are bigger, but all the room is wasted, as almost all fighting takes place in one corner of the map.
This causes other issues as well. It makes most range weapons obsolete (not including dual gauss). Your higher ELO's become nothing more than a Nascar deathball under ECM causing boring/stale game play.

#2 Matchmaker punishes higher ELO players. There is no incentive to take creative, fun, silly builds because you will end up getting beat like a drum. This means 90% of the mechs in your mechbay go unused. Go meta or go home.

#3 No real lobby system. Having to have premium to do private lobbies is insulting and a naked cash grab.

#4 Poor geometry, getting stuck on a pebble, invisible walls blocking shots.

#5 Jump jets are horrible. Useless on assault mechs ( see Highlander) Knee jerk reaction to poptarting

#6 Progress in the game moves at a snails pace. Lack of content (this has got better since IGP was booted, but its still too slow)

#7 Economy is too punishing. takes way too long to earn C-Bills

#8 No destructible terrain, which both MW3 and MW4 had. Inexcusable that we have actually went backwards since MW4 and that was over 10 years ago.

#9 Too many game breaking bugs. (Hit Reg, getting stuck in terrain, frame rate issues and game crashing to desktop)

Feel free to add to this list in this thread. Dont kill the messenger. This thread is meant to be productive and to let PGI know where the perceived shortcomings are and what they need to address to bring long time fans back to the game.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

Really the game is in a pretty good spot right now. Is it perfect no but no games are. Can it be better yes. Your post I believe is to extreme on the negative side.

Because Paul.

While he's probably the brains behind some of my least favourite changes to MWO, we should be honest enough to admit that Russ & Co agree with a lot of the things Paul has done. Russ seems to like the Paulconomy as much as Paul. At this point, it's almost like they're doing the Good Cop, Bad Cop routine. There's a lot of praise for Russ and a lot of hate for Paul, even though they're working together to do the same things.

Listen to the Town Hall meetings and hear Russ talk about how the C-bill income is comparable to other games like WoT and Warthunder. He's all about it.

Well to be fair, I was an avid WoT player. But that game was a grind. MWO is a LOT less grindy.

I really can't compare grinding in MWO to either WoT or WT...or any other f2p title. MWO's grinding is like nothing compared to its competitors.

Those huge and detailed maps <3 MWo maps are just cheap arenashooter matches/maps with poor details and yet it takes them 100-250k $ to create 1 map

I know right?

A true mechbay walk in.
And actually exitting your mech and run and walk as a person.
And getting tanks if you like.

The only reason your friedlist is empty is that you added guys who then stopped playing.
This is a f2p game, joining and leaving costs nothing. It's easier to leave behind a game if you didn't invest money in it.
My frindlist didn't lose a single guy thus far. Now what?

On your list:

The destructible terrain in MW4 was hilariously bad. Whole group of trees just "popping" if they are scratched by a mg bullet at one branch. Buildings just "blowing up" if they took enough damage (from mgs).

You can't come up with stuff like that in a 2012 game. Guys want MUCH more from terrain destruction than back in the days. Probably more than PGI would be able to provide.

How can it be knee jerk reaction, if PGI waited over half year to actually do something about rampant poptarts? It took over a year for the poptart meta to go away.
