there have been several mishaps where PGI accidentally dropped a whole 12-'man' group of bots in the group queue. As recently as 1 and 2 months ago. So they're actually busy with developing a PvE element. No solid info on when or if this will ever get implemented though. (so far the bots have also performed rather abysmally when deployed).

So does this mean....

We can expect to see AI enemies in the future in about a year or so???

Only if they hire a real AI programmer.

Theres a reason the only successful bots ever have been user created. Other than Unreal Tournaments bots...whose engineer got hired at Epic by Cliff, because he made QuakeBot.

You've been punked.

Those 12-man groups of players who start alt accounts using usernames like Bot1, Bot2, ect.

Do you remember how hard it was to kill them on "Godlike"?

I used to spend entire days just doing 1v1 against them.

I thought they were not AIs but just placeholders to test the servers? From what I remember they were either doing nothing or very little, like running out of bounds or something. They were supposed to go onto test builds of the game but were accidentally sent into the live one for whatever reason.

Yup and they didnt cheat. No extra hps, no extra speed, no extra damage. They were just good.

I think some of them had higher skill levels by default or something--Drimacus was one that used to always stand out if you did not adjust them yourself.

I modded UT back in the day. The bots were simply amazing.

There was one incident of each. Once PGI dropped bots onto the production server, and once a bunch of KONG players showed up to troll.

BTW UT^2's code is open sourced.

You can take that bot code. Works in Unity...

The original UT was just an amazing release, especially looking back now in the context of its time. I remember some very interesting player made skins, sounds, and levels getting into the game eventually. The Skaarj always reminded me of the Predator anyway so the Predator skins that came in seemed like a natural progression....then one day I came across Bender from Futurama complete with voice pak that said different lines from the show and realized the mods and custom skins really had no limit.

I messed around with the bots on "godlike" and the game mode set to instagib a few times---talk about getting owned.

Oh look at that, wide-open maps leading to nothing but PPC/Gauss usage. And people thought MWO's balance was bad.
