On the other hand, the only time they come out in force is through excessive whining or another pack is made available.
You know the MO.

Uhm, yes? Have you seen how people talk to Russ when he posts here? For every jackass being rude, there's fifty grown men fawning like girls who get to meet Daniel Radcliffe or something. The MWO community may be toxic to each other, but people basically trample each other to be nice to Russ when he takes the time to post.
I can see how he's too busy to do it himself. He's got a lot to do. But I don't think it's a valid excuse to blame the "cesspit". We're not really that bad.
... you buttfisting ogre.

Just because you don't read all the topics it doesn't mean they don't come here.

For example I created a thread about Wave 3 payment issues this week and Alex (Garden) answered in a matter of minutes (and quickly resolved the issue, thx again).
The problem is:
Every word a developer, even a "minor" one, posts has serious weight and posting even a little too much (internal information, personal opinion, whatever) can escalate quickly.
I'm not a game developer, but we have a very similar strategy in our company regarding our forums.
I suggest to think about it like that:
If a thread has a halfway reasonable title, you can be almost certain that the devs will read it.
And if it is really required, they will post as well.

I like islands being a sailor but I can always leave.
Seems many have taken that route.

You need to remember though, that our Community manager is brand new, just out of the box, a shiny new action figure.
I imagine she's been reading topics on the boards to get an overall impression of us forumites. Soon, she'll likely unwind from the fetal position, pop a valium or two, don her flack jacket, crucifix and flame retardant goggles (which do nothing), and start her journey towards becoming a battle hardened community juggernaut.
Either that, or she'll end up in a rocking chair somewhere, staring into the distance and whispering "the things I've seen..."

various ones read stuff on here daily, just don't always bother to log in. And several of them, post pretty regular, and reply. It's just that half the posts and demands really are not worth replying to.
