Hi Guys,

I recently (12 hours ago) finished leveling my Loki. I sold the other two and have 9 million or so space-bucks in my account.

I have never tried the Wolverine and I have only owned one Hunchback... long ago during the Founders period.

I love piloting mediums. I play my Blackjacks all the time and just love them. I also have Shadowhawks and enjoy playing them as well. I like to move fast and hit hard or provide suppresive AC fire (AC/2 quirks on Blackjacks are amazing). My AC/20 Arrow is also a blast.

Of the two mechs (Wolverine and Hunchback) which do you think I would enjoy playing more and why? I'm leaning more toward the Wolverine at this point, but I honestly don't know. The increased protection on the actual hunch of the Hunchback makes me think it would be fun to use. I also see a crap-ton of Hunchies around in the public queue.

Advice, ideas, builds are all welcome.

Thanks!

Hunchback all the way. I've never found a use for my Wolverines (though the community does like its wubtastic variant). It's hard to find better AC20 quirks than with the mother of all AC20 mediums. The 9 medium/spl hunchie is a godlike beast. Tired of the hunch? Fly the 4J with PPCs and medium lasers and watch your enemies stare at you in confusion.

Seriously. The hunchbacks are a blast. And no mech has a better swagger in this game.

If you like suppression AC fire, look no further than the Wolverine 6R:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...3a5f66836ac2200

Those AC5s will fire like AC2s. And you have some jumping capability. NOT A BRAWLER, though.

You can't really go terribly wrong with either though.

It really depends on if you like jumping. If I want to use srm's I use my Wolverine, if I want to strut around with an ac20 I use the hunch. I would argue that the wolverine is the better mech - but that ac20 really is dangerous.

I've owned both. For more variety and tinkering Definetly go with the hunchback. I have to say my favorite mech to play - seems odd I know...is my Verine 7K. 3xSRM6, 3xSL 100 KPH (or thereabouts) almost heat neutral. Only play when not leveling but the thing is tanky and packs a whollop at close range. That being said, all other verines I found to be subpar.

The hunchback is a solid mech. A lot tougher than it looks for a medium (and it looks pretty tough).

The wolverine can't quite mix it up like the hunchie can, but it's a good mech. I dropped the LPLs on my 6k for regular LLs. It can fire for quite a while and it's fun to slap over eager light mechs with the "Laser Fist of the North Star". I dueled a Streakcrow into submission with it once (although it was a damn close fight)

The Hunchback would be better if you want a single AC20, or if you like peeping over things with a high mounted cannon. You've already got that to an extent with the Shadowhawk though. Personally I love the Wolverine best. That double AC5 on the 6R is only slightly less beastmode than the Dragon 1N version, and you can jump with it. People don't seem to realise what a threat you are until it's too late and they're in spectator mode.

Alright, I think I'll go with the Hunchie for now. I do like the dual AC/5's of the Wolverine, though. Odds are I'll eventually end up getting three of each.

Do Hunchies do OK with XL's? I know I can't use an XL with the AC/20, but the other variants look like I would put XL's in them.

I might actually go with the AC/10 Hunch instead of the one with AC/20 quirks. I already have a BJ with an AC/20 and 3 mediums... and JJ's.

You can put an xl in the 4SP no problem, I really wouldnt recommend it in the others (And put most armour to the front on the others).

There are a lot of variants to choose from with the Hunchie. The missile quirks on the SP or J are pretty amazing.

But I have a soft spot for my ALRM10 6R Wolverine too.

Wolverine.

Hunchback is only good so long as you are facing off against dim witted idiots who don't think to shoot the hunch.

I can't take a mech seriously that has (almost) all its weapons in ONE arm.
In both arms is bad enough (although it has advantages as well), but in ONE arm, inacceptable.

not if it's relying on 2 ac5s or lasers for it's firepower.

I haven't tried the Wolverine (at least not yet), but I have extensive seat time in the Hunchback 4G and 4P.

The Hunchback is a great little Medium. Its fairly durable and quick. It also has great quirks. I still don't think any other mech has a better quirked A/C20. The 4P is also an awesome laser vomit mech (but a tad hot, so weapon fire discipline is important).

As long as you run STD engines in Hunchbacks with "humps" and learn good torso twisting habits, the mech is a little force of nature.

Maybe that is why I like it. Its powerful and quirky. It makes it a very entertaining ride.
