Ok, I played a long time ago before Pirahna took over mwo, and have recently come back. I love BT, always have from tabletop to multiple PC games to having all the novels (apart from the German language ones) I was looking for something different to WoT, and thought, yep lets try mechwarrior again. Playing on and off for about 4 weeks now.

So to my question. I have mostly been playing lights (bought some jeners and got up to elite with 3 classes, but decided I did not like them) and also heavies (bought myself a quickdraw). However due to ques my QD has been sat in the garage and I have been playing trial lights and assaults, with the odd HBK/QD match thrown in.

I find myself in a quandary. I like ballistics, but not gaus (don't understand the mechanic yet), and am quite good with PPC shots as well. I don't like the laser spam much, and am not a bad shot with SRM's. I like popping out, ID target firing and popping back.

I have been playing the Victor trial mech and am loving it. I like the UAC5 long range and I like the srm/ML brawlers seems a great combo and I am getting some good damage, the odd kill, lots of assists and a few wins with it in PuG's

I am looking at throwing a few quid at the game, and am wondering whether the Victor mastery pack is a good buy, or just wait till the Hero is on sale at some point and buy him? Reading a lot about the nerf of 2014, but wondering how they stack up now.

thanks in advance

Well, the Victor isn't the meta monster it was, but I kinda like it better that way. If you're going to be throwing money at the game, I'd decide what your style is first. Do you mind a little grind? if you don't buy the hero Dragon Slayer and get the other variants for mastery as you earn c-bills. If you absolutely can't stand the grind, but the mastery pack and enjoy.

Either way, the big hubbub in the game right now is "quirks." All the Inner Sphere mechs have been given bonuses to help them perform better on an equal playing field. You can find quirk information here:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...ult_innersphere
(that's for the assault mechs, which the victor is)

Your mech will perform to the best of its ability when you build it with quirks in mind. The 9S variant has a missile cooldown quirk, the 9B has a laser duration quirk and all the chassis have ballistic quirks.

Thanks. I am not interested in the meta build, never have been in any shooter I have played, I like to play the way I like to play :) I don't mind grinding (played WoT since beta, not put a penny in, but provided lots of enjoyment for others blowing me up!), however the MC cost between the hero and the mastery pack is not that much, which equates to not that much real cash to be honest. So pretty much talking myself into the mastery pack aren't I :)
