So PGI whats up with this sudden increase in ping for europe players? I've been playing at 120-160 ping for the last two years, and now suddenly my ping has gone up to 300. Today it reached a new record of 380, which is absolutely unacceptable.

And before I would go and blame you guys for it i'd probably check my own connection first. But the problem is that every_single_game I play (some even have US-based servers) show realistic (and good) ping numbers ranging from 10 (EU) to 110 (US servers).

I'm 100% sure that this isn't a problem on my end, as I have friends who've experienced the increase in ping too. Either a minor increase like 10-20 or a drastic increase of 200, as in my case.

It's time to step up your servers PGI. Surely the new Steam players will love the absurd lagg this game has right now.

I was on 140 ping for years.

Now I hover anywhere from 250 to 300. It was fine in december, then I took a two month break, and now it's all sorts of screwed up.

Maybe you are routed over longer paths for some reason. Maybe make a trace route and post it.

I'm in Europe and my ping is constantly around 110-150.

And what's the point of saying "unacceptable"?
You quit playing, is that it? You're free to do so any time.
PGI isn't responsible for the network.

And setting up europe servers has to be paid for.
Do you pay the extra infra structure money just to get your personal ping lower? No? Why should they?
Do you get additional players (thousands) to amortize the investment and ease the player base sharding effect? No?
Anything?

I hate it when people "demand" personal improvements by money payed from others. Smells pretty selfish.

While I appreciate the fact that it's seems logical that PGI would be singularly culpable for the increase in ping rate... They are actually near the bottom in terms of culpability...

ISPs are notorious for changing routes (particularly EU routes). I'd begin looking there first IMHO...

That said, this site can be handy sometimes: Online Visual Tracerout

If you have no baseline to gauge from it's more info than helpful but I've persoanlly seen the number of hops taken + / - 3, which in the grand scheme of things affected me up to 20 points one way or the other.

This is one of the perks of 'Murica...being closer to PGI's servers (Canada). 40-60ish ping FTW.

I "believe" their website and their game server reside in the same farm node. So if you use: http://mwomercs.com/ that pretty much gets you in the same ballpark. ;)

You got 3 options too choose from.

1) Suckitupbuttercup n deal with it
2) Move to canada n enjoy 20-30 pings
3) build n island in the middle of the atlantic ocean, have server moved there to avg out pings world wide.

take your pick.

Maybe we should start digging through the crust of the earth to avoid its curvature and get shorter connections.

Eh, well.

They hosted the servers in Canada which should be well known to any online gamer as awful for server hosting.

Their routing companies are far worse than ours in the US and consistently have **** routing.

You could always look into a gaming VPN and see if that helps.

The Space Pope wonders why they did not just elect to use servers in the central region of the United States.

Say Chicago or something similar, in his experience, the Space Pope has found that such locations offer generally acceptable ping for Americans and even Euros (although East Coast servers are obviously much preferred for European players).

IS the population high enough to expand servers like they need to and when they go to steam how will they handle the extra traffic?

My ping is the same as it has been for a while. It was 150-160 when I started in 2012. Over the past few months, it's dropped down to 130-135.

Still good.

Every time our pings go bonkers, take a look at this http://map.ipviking.com/
Chinese and russian botnets are heavily attacking NA nodes for weeks now. Not PGI's fault.

Sometimes in a great while my ping shoots up to 400 from 90-95.

It's usually what ShredHead said.

Been seeing 150-180 ping today instead of the usual 100-110. In the UK on BT if it helps..

Congratulations on your complete lack of understanding of the issues at hand.

Well played.
