I think I might be a little confused here.

I was under the assumption that this would be much like Starlance back in the day in that we would arrange dates and times for battles between X and Y faction - Then meet, start a game with the people that were setup for the battle and duke it out much like we did in 3rd party Leagues in MW3 & 4.

From what I am reading it doesn't sound like that at all - It sounds like you Queue for combat in a sector and the system assigns random people to oppose you that represent the sector you are attacking. They can be random scrubs, or perhaps a group of people that are in a party also waiting in a queue.

Is that really what this is about? I'm a little unsure of that functionality for MWO... it is fine for LOL - that is a 1 time thing. We are talking about unit reputations here and tracking stats for your own "guild" I'd use the term clan but people always misunderstand it and scream there are no clans in MWO!!!!! ^_^ I am assuming that just because we are all House Steiner for example that the system would track guild ranking not overall faction.

If I am understanding this right - it seems like it is taking the rating level of each pilot you are grouped with and trying to matchmake you with a random set of people that fit that rating.... i hope this is not the system they are using  I would be very disappointed.

Game is in beta, I'm going to assume this is in to test balance and bug hunt considering taking faction warfare won't be in at launch.

I don't see how they can get around squad based Matchmaking.

but the important thing is, not who you're fighting, but who you're fighting with. So as long as there is some
"Join as Group" function... even if you are battleing across a planet, you'll be with your same Squad. and that's what really counts. I think in this regard, MechWarriors are strong than whatever plan PGI has, MW causes strong Units/Lances/Squad/Clans, and they will have to cater to our wish to drop together. I'm sure they will.

Well more specifically I am talking about the bitter rivalries forged over time. When we found certain clans or houses in SL if they saw our names in there - you could BET the same pilots from the opposing side would always take us on and we would again lock horns in epic battles.

We used to be like "HOOOOOO HOHOHOH looks like they dropped in with thier "B" team lol get um boys..." or "Now we are talking - lets do this men!" if it was their "A" team.

I'm not sure that can even happen with a match making system - that was a big part of the game for me back then.

*edit* People would even talk about certain battles that were scheduled like "Man saturday CL and FRR are going at it saturday night!"
