It reminds me of a ship... but I like it. I can't forget when I made 5 kills in my Jager in ~2 minutes and every time it trumpeted. Such a glorious moment.

I wish they would have been a little different, though:
Steiner: Bagpipes
FRR: Viking war-horn (an actual, physical horn that is blown through)
Kurita: Taiko drums
Liao: honestly - who cares about Liao?
Marik: dunno
Davion: dunno

NGNG's video previews of the Grasshopper and Zeus (shown on Russ' Twitter) show that you CAN, in fact, change the colors on the faction camos. I was worried about that too.
I'd contact support if I were you, saying you'd like to change your faction selections based on this new information... Of course, they won't even get your request until tomorrow. But it's still worth a shot

Incidentally, the Davion and Steiner patterns are both really good IMO, seeing as you can change the colors on them. I also like the Marik and Liao patterns quite a bit, but not as much as those first two. Kurita's is OK, Rasalhague's is... kinda bleh. I hope they open up these faction patterns for other IS 'mechs soon.

Liao - A big gong based
https://youtu.be/KYNKFJr8bSA?t=29s
Marik - Steam Whistle base
Kurita - Everybody knows Taiko. Just about everybody.
Steiner : Alpenhorn maybe? A minor key 5 second blast of this is probable.
Davion: large bell sounds?
I'd rather have these as basis for sounds instead of what we got.

why
Honestly, I can see what PGI was "going for" when designing these. Davion is supposed to be, not just heroic, but bright and sunny - white-knightey, basically. Kurita and Liao are supposed to be reflections of the cultures that inspired those factions. Steiner is supposed to sound "heavy" to go with their strong preference for assaults. Etc.
Problem is you can tell that whoever did these only tapped into the surface level of those concepts. So they sound really, really cheesy. Not only that, but most of them are far too melodic. A warhorn should be no more than two or three notes at the most, it's supposed to be advertising KILL SECURED, not leading up to a song that never gets played. I like Marik's sound best, with Liao in second place, Rasalhague being tolerable, and the rest being crap(Kurita by far being the worst). And what's really puzzling is how much better the results would have been if they had simply made them more simple.
Davion: simple trumpet flourish/fanfare
Steiner: dunno, a lot of people recommending Celtic stuff, although Liao has a strong Scottish element too
Kurita: simple kabuki YOOOO, as many have pointed out. Another option would be the drums, but the first would be cooler
Liao: pretty decent as-is IMO, although you could add a bagpipe drone behind the gong hit.
Marik: the wildcard. You could do American, Indian, Balkan, Byzantine, and a lot of other influences besides. I think it's OK as-is, just not very evocative of the region's ethnic elements (although it does well reflect its gubernal/political elements)
