With all the custom paint jobs you can buy out there, why not let each unit submit their own colour scheme that is unit-specific and easily recognisable as belonging to that unit?

Each unit would have to apply to be given a template to do a mockup of their own, preferred colour choices and patterns.(The template would allow the animators to properly skin the wireframe.) Each submission would go through an approval process to make sure it isn't a duplicate of something already in use, or isn't overly offensive.

After a period to allow PGI to fully develop and release it, the unit would then be able to have unit members purchase their own colours to distinguish unit mechs from non-unit mechs.

The unit wins by having a morale-boosting, easily identified mech pattern, and PGI wins by getting more people to spend MCs on colours.

Only Unit members would be able to field mechs with that unit's colours, meaning if you leave a unit, but have purchased their colours, you would have to take them off of your mech. (I'm not sure how enforceable this would be.)

There are a lot of units out there and the difficult part would be keeping track of the unit colours and patterns, but it's doable.

Thoughts?

wouldn't mind if units could set up their own paint schemes. i wouldn't make it cost mc though. it would be more on a subscription basis where you pay the subscription with some cbills. the subscription would probibly be the mc cost of the colors and patterns, paid per drop with your team (pug drops use your colors). the fee is waived if you either have active premium time, or if you paid a one time mc fee to unlock team colors, and if you own any of the colors or the chassis you are using has the pattern, then those are not counted towards the fee.

id forgo the ability to do custom skins for technical reasons. but i would allow custom decals to be submitted that would be used with team colors.

Great ideas, especially the subscription thing. That would fit right in with contributing to a unit. I've added the c-bill option to the poll.
