R&R is the dumbest idea any game has had. Penalize people for playing by reducing rewards and putting people in the position to take a half functional mech into battle.

Rewards would have to be increased.

But, yes, welcome to the BT universe, Ammo costs C-bills, and somebody has to pay that tech to fix your mech, weapons systems, armor, internal structure, etc.

You have no problem buying that LRM-15 launcher initially, right? Well the parts to fix it aint free.

You both are the perfect example of this thread being the thread of understanding, which is great.

Ok, I must admit I didn't read all the previous posts, so maybe this has been said before, but I think that during long engagements, such as CW matches, (witch will hopefully get even longer and more... fluffy), balistic and missle mechs should have the ability to rearm..

Repairing.. that's a slippery slope..

Here's how I would do it..

Since this is field repair afterall.. you could only rearm your mech, witch would cost you half the c-bills as if you re-bought that ammo.

As far as repairs go, it should last a minimum of 30 seconds, only 1 mech at a time in a mech repair bay (so if its occupied - tough), and it should give you only 30% overall, and re-attach lost components but have them still be damaged (half total damage on an arm that's been blown off). This would cost you a fixed ammount of c-bills / repair.

This would need CW to give bigger cash rewards, or special rewards if you DID NOT repair or rearm any mechs.

That sounds fair..

That is not the repair and re-arm the OP was referring to.
In-match Repair and re-arm should NEVER be part of this game.

Lol, Velron while i agree with the R&R (in some derivatives of) Hotthed does not. Me and him have agreed to disagree. I like the idea of extending a CW match but that's just me.

I like the idea of R&R from an immersion perspective but there are some important points to consider.

The main argument against R&R has always been that it punishes new/poor players and doesn't affect the rich. And we can't have people losing money when they play. Well here is a news flash. If you use 8 consumables in the current iteration of CW you can easily lose money. 4arty+4UAV at 320k is a lot more than the 100-200k you get in a match if you get stomped. The same holds true in the public queue. If you use consumables and get stomped you can lose money. Just like people did back in closed beta.

If we bring in R&R I would like to see it used as a means to differentiate the divide between Loyalist and Merc. Put simply
-Loyalist - faction pays all repair and rearm costs but gets all salvage rights. Pretty much stays as it is now.
-Merc - player pays for R&R but gets a larger slice of Salvage rights including actual parts and mechs. Bigger risk bigger reward.

Additionally I would like to see the unit coffers brought into play some how Ie unit pays R&R but gets all salvage and can pay bonuses to unit members.

To make it fair you will also need to have some kind of cost for energy weapons as we will just see more laser boats, there is more than enough of those now. Lasers need a new focusing lens or something after every battle.

R&R only needs to be applied to CW and IMO should only apply to IS, Clan's need an entirely different mechanism, because Clan Warriors have no use for money, particularly that supplied by ComStar but that is an entirely different topic.

Slide I agree with the coffers being brought into play somehow. They're overdue.

I voted no because it is a single question. A rearming bay at base would make sense. But in reality, I would imagine battlefield repair would take longer than the whole battle itself thus rendering it impracticle.

reading over the last few pages and I must say I haven't changed my mind when I said no.

I might have missed it but I didn't see anything about taking trial mechs into battle and R&R would be handled since they don't own those mechs.

and to touch on 'bad players'
I could be seen as one as I have a mech almost completely dedicated to (C)LRMs, however I also mount a (C)ER Larger laser for when an enemy gets to close or run out of missiles.

so having an R&R would be punishing me because I am not as good as the ones that have had what a few years to play this game?

not everyone is going to be an elite player and others have a different learning curve so this would punish those who some deem a 'bad' player.

besides this could also drive off other players as well because they might end up in the hole because of it.

it would leave just the 'best' to play, I will admit I haven't played for a long while because of campers(turned me off from CW) so I might have forgotten so correct me it I am wrong but don't you have to wait for x number of players before any match can start?

so how do we know that this wouldn't hamper game play because of the system having trouble finding more players to add to the team?

Your engine get destroyed?
Well you you have to buy a new one to launch into the next game.
Expensive if you run XL's.

An XL engine is rarely TOTALLY destroyed. The cost should be to repair it based on the # of critical spaces destroyed. But when it is, yes it would be expensive. OTOH Std. engines run a higher risk of total destruction.

in the end I can see this completely backfire if players don't do cw because of this very thing.
It would most likely end up being a waiting game.

That isn't what the OP means. He is suggesting that (as MW:O had before), having to pay for repairs and pay to replenish ammo.

Your suggestion would be yet another straw on the Camel's back turning this from the BattleTech universe into another CoD shooter. Battlefield power-ups would make me uninstall and never look back. We already have 3PV and respawns during battles...smh.

The lack of respawns and repairs - i.e. deathmatch made me uninstall once already and I am about ready to do so again. This game annoys me very much because I play PUG matches almost exclusively (I'd prefer PvE actually) and deathmatch depends heavily on teammates where respawn games I can control much easier as solo PUG player (I can have a much larger impact).

Although I am in a unit, time constraints mean that I also PUG 95% of the time.
i like the fact that my decisions actually matter, and if I screw up I pay the price.
If you need to be Johnny Rambo, there are a myriad of choices in games you can play.

Rambo? No I just like respawn games so I have teammates alive instead of dead in 7mins or less... In deathmatch the games are really over within the first 4 mins except for very rare exceptions. In deathmatch, 1 tactical error in position means the game is over even before 1 shot is fired. In a respawn game positional errors mean much less. The game can ebb and flow. I've found PS2 (planetside 2) to have a very good mix of vehicles, equipment and spawn options. The only reason I returned to MWO was because it has Mechs and I like mechs :). If Planetside 2 introduced 1 single Mech, I'd never play MWO again.

I meant the universal "you", not you personally.

But if re-spawns were the only option in this game, I would uninstall. I put money into this game with the promise of "a thinking man's shooter".

I do agree that deathmatch is good for competitive play, but not much fun for PUGs.
