In any case, FPS games and more than 100 ping is a no go. You ppl want to go steam and have a world wide customer base, you'll need servers in Europe and southeast Asia if not Australia. I know that the player base is small but that could change if you got rid of the countless bugs, memory leaks, client crashes and revisited some of your game mechanic choices. It's all up to you.

NZ player , averaging 250-300 ms ping. Ping is not a huge issue, you just have to lead more, it is the constant Unknown errors as the client cannot sync with the server plus teleporting mechs etc and the occasional rubber banding

You got a point here. PGI is lucky enough to have many loyal players that invest a considerable amount of money to buy.. eh.. trashcans, for example :-) despite all these issues.
All the content seems to be necessary for a steady money income; anyway, if you want to attract more players, you'll have to bring the game out of the beta status.

At open beta i sat around 120~140 and was aware that what i saw and my friends in america saw were different .
After the server change i went to about 110 and ballistics became worth while at last , i recently got fttc and hover around 95~105 and the whole game just feels smoother and again i seem to be doing better with ballistics.
FTTC fiber to the cabinet i.e. the box at the end of my street. i had good jitter and packet loss through out (i regularly check) so this was all about the ping ;-)

My ping sits comfortably at 60 - 80 usually. Even at that low I still notice some hit reg issues but its nothing game breaking.
160 I start to notice major issues, but its few and far between.

So if PGI releases this on steam with its current network issues it will probably kill its only chance for a successful launch. A lot of people read the comments on steam.

Basically a large batch of thumbs downs on the same page as the game preview isn't going to help matters

I am in EU and having a ping of 110-150, sometimes also up to 180 in the last time. But honastly, for me it is really hard to distinguish in terms of hitregistration, if it comes from the ping or from the the hitbox problems of a lot of mechs. I think it is mostly a mixture of both. If I try to shoot a running light mech (mostly clan mechs because of cw... a am IS), they barely get damage from my lasers, AC shots are more or less ok. I think this arises mainly because of ping. In cases of mech chassis like timberwolfes, stormcrows and some more, hit reg problems are mainly because of the broken hitboxes, especially in the back torso armor, where a lot of shots are registered in the front and often AC shots fly through them without any hit reg. And in a lot of cases you have a moving mech with broken hit boxes and you can hardly say, if it is because of ping or because of broken hit boxes, that the damage isn't registered. So please fix the hit boxes first, so we can give you better information about the ping problems and the impact!

Edit:
I forgot to say that the rubber bending is in mostly cases a very heavy problem for me, especially fighting in tight areas against other mechs, because I often get heavy damage, because I can't see him because he is warping around and it seems that my enemy can see me the whole time and shoot me.

Canadian on Xplornet (AKA Garbagenet).

I am typically between 70-120, and don't really notice any issues.

When my connection is on vacation, I sometimes see 150-200 and I can tell.

Occasionally it spikes to 500-1000 (!?) and it's unplayable. (No surprise) Note, I am nearly certain it's Xplorenet, not PGI's fault for those.

I usually play between 150-250 (4G wireless :( ) and I mainly notice issues when shooting fast moving targets with lasers. A lot of times I will see contact but get no hit reg. With other weapons it is not as noticeable, probably because I have grown accustomed to leading targets with the ping that I have.

I miss having sub-100 ping, that is for sure.

I play at between 70-90, when I'm at 70 I experience some hit-reg issues, in both directions, hitting opponents becomes more difficult (I actually have to a shoot a tiny bit behind them according to me watching my own twitch recordings) and, I become harder to hit, or seem to take less damage. At 90 I feel as stable as possible, hit reg seems excellent in both directions. it should be noted that while I have tremendous down and up speeds, it is through a somewhat lamented ISP.

I used to have cable (30-60 ping) and now have DSL (100 ping or so)... noticeable difference. Definitely not a big deal but, especially with fast moving targets, hit detection is down. Average match score has decreased from 400-600 to 300-500.

I'm usually around 240ms and have been noticing that it really affects gameplay.

I play fast lights, and that means that I need to be undercover quickly or I'm dead. In recent games I've been taking damage from weapons fire after I get under cover. I also notice that by the time I have spotted an enemy, they're already firing on me.

Lag sucks.

I typically get 78-90 ping. Anything above that and I notice a difference in my gameplay.

Playing from Mexico here, best ping is around the 120 mark (4am after a few beers) but more normally 150-180ms which is quite acceptable, or at least I`ve grown used to it and can do decently with any weapon. Unfortunately, I´m prone to spiking and can go all the way up to 2500! But, my limit for minimum playability would probably be around the 300 mark

I'm playing from France near the Manche with a ping around 92-96, it's quite fine but for one thing i realized, the more i shoot laser (more than four) at the same time, the less i hit and do damage, as an example i do more damage to a spider moving while shooting 3 by 3 my lasers than doing an alpha with 8 lasers (and i see my laser hitting well his body constantly, not on the same spot but still on the spider) on some extreme case because i have a very big difference of ping with the target, i couldn't damage an Atlas shutdowned in front of me with 8 laser, other than that, seem fine.

Well that's fair comment about the ping and laws of physics. But it doesn't account for the steadily deteriorating game play us Australians and other high ping players have been experiencing for the last year and a half.

Before the clans and the server move etc the high ping didn't really affect game play all that much. But mainly since the server migration things have been steadily getting worse.

For those who have a Ping above 100.
Go and watch some streams or youtube vids of players who have a ping <50 ... then you'll see how PPCs and ACs can work - it is completely different from what you think is "normal"

Normally at 125 - 150. If i get over about 190, I give up and stop playing. I see lag spiked of over 3000 from time to time and give up for the day at that point.
