What exactly are they doing wrong?
I used this topic to start a dialog about MWO itself not just the mechs I will say The devs have done a good job mostly on maps & mech design some are strange and fugly but overall good mech designs. The legal problems with the unseen could have been eliminated before closed beta and those mechs could have been in MWO.
But the overall game to many that have been long time BattleTech/TT/MechWarrior players and fans is a joke and does not live up to the MechWarrior IP expectations of even a basic MechWarrior game like mechwarrio2 was.
Read my post in 8v8 im not going to duplicate threads RUSS is a person with one bottom line idealism about MechWarrior =minimal viable product and let it ride 3 years I have watched this game decline overall because of lack of vision and the commitment to make MWO a true MechWarrior game like its predecessors.
If you want me to make a laundry list of changes to make MWO into a true MechWarrior game just let me know russ is willing to change the core game design and many will help him but if not MWO will stay a backward boring game.
Okay then, let's discuss.
Comparing MWO to past Mechwarrior titles is a little like comparing apples and oranges. Yes they share the same IP but Mechwarrior 2 was developed and produced by
Activision. Mechwarrior 3 and 4 were also developed and published by big name AAA studios. PGI is miniscule in comparison, and has no where near the resources to apply to this game.
Is there a long way to go before MWO can live up to its predecessors (if it ever does)? Yes. There is a lot of content we have yet to see. The game is also fundamentally different from the other Mechwarrior games. I don't think anyone will dispute these points. Is the game making progress? Compare what we have now to a year ago today... I have to disagree that Russ's intentions are to make a minimally viable product. Someone who didn't care could have easily let this die as a failed experiment and moved on to other more profitable projects targeted at less niche audiences.
Since IGP got out of the picture we have seen huge changes in how MWO is being handled. It's not perfect, but no Mechwarrior title ever has been. I used to be very critical of the direction MWO was going in, but not so much anymore. They are listening to us and communicating with the community. They are developing PvE content. They are working on bringing us viable community warfare, and producing new mechs on a regular basis. They are implementing asked for features like unit creation/management, VoIP, and a new smurphy based mechlab.
I understand the sentiment for frustration over wait for all of this, but it's coming, and not Soon
TM but for real.
