I do like a previous posters idea of making it so mechs aren't slowed down so much when climbing/hitting pebbles to mitigate a big plus of JJ's. As others suggested maybe mess with convergence or gravity to help combat poptarts. Although I never understood how people had so much trouble with them. They were like slow moving clay pigeons and easily avoidable if you didn't move predictably.

Go to a rifle range. Shoot at the target from a standing position. How'd that turn out for you?
Ok now do it while jumping.

Do you think weapons should magically, perfectly, instantaneously converge when running at 90 Kph over uneven terrain?
Seems pretty far fetched.

In the year 3050, yes. I ******* do.
No question.
Look at telemetry of satellites.
We just landed on a ******* comet.

And we almost did it successfully! Aside from the probe falling on it's side, making it unable to do a portion of the tasks it was sent to do.
Science isn't infallible.

200 years ago we had this.
Just run the numbers, and your imagination.
A thousand years from now? Trouble aiming a robot laser? Really?
Lol come on...
It's not a difficult leap of faith.
ps - I swear I think I saw a culverin poptart in one of those squares halfway thru on one of the zoomed out shots...

just sayin' we had remarkable successful brain surgery as far as 9000 years ago. 500 years ago we had "might as well take a piss on it" brain "surgery". just because it happens in the future doesn't mean it's more advanced.

Where's this banal tangent going?
Weapons get increasingly accurate over time.
You mean to tell me you couldn't hit a huge gigantic walking tank going 50 kph with an instantaneous pinpoint laser while jumping? Seriously?
In fact I think I can do that right now. Lemme go get a laser pointer and make a quick video. It's not hard. I don't even need a robot. ************* hit planes in the sky with that ****. Planes go faster than 50 kph. Guess what, they're farther than 200 meters away too. Mmmmbop.
Saying that mechs should not have accuracy with weapons while jumping is straight up an agenda driven suggestion by people who A] get their ass wrecked by said technique, B] cannot do said technique well enough, or C] just dislike it... those last people are what we call haters. We're all that guy in some respects (I hate LRMs unless I'm 8/8ing and watching tv idling at base).

Well, if you tried to pare BT tech with how technology advances in the real world...it just looks silly nowadays.
Just gotta suspend disbelief and have fun.
Now about the JJ, yeah. Jump, not hover.
Has anyone even tried poptarting vs current meta recently?

I occasionally rig my Enforcer 4r for poptarting, and it works okay. I never really did it when poptarting was THE META, so I have nothing to compare it to.
I also do it in my Panther 10K if I think its a net positive move at the moment.

Yes, it's fine. Is it what it once was, no. Was that really the issue, no; it was the fact that 90% bandwagoned it. Other tactics have been, debatably, as strong in terms of consistency over the games meta cycle/maturation itself.

actually, france, late stone age. but nvm.
battletech canon is a set stage (which is utterly ********) for giant robots kicking other giant robots in the nuts for no reason.
no more, no less.
3050, every backwater mechanic who's working with agromechs can and will repair almost every ancient "we kinda don't know how it was built anymore" battlemech but almost no one in the whole galaxy is able to build a simple calculator (dat **** is losttech in 3050) so yes, 3050 is full of utterly bs, serving only one purpose, mechporn.

as in jumpsniping or real poptarting?
on IS side, i popsnipetard with my ppc spider for about 15-20 minutes every game. not so much for the damage but as a harasser. works well versus long burn time of th ER LL meta.

The oubliette thing going on with some of the stuff, you know, Lostech, backwater hillbilly planets, random brain caches in the middle of nowhere.............. that **** doesn't sit well with me. It just doesn't.
When we manifested destiny in the New World, we didn't just leave Eldorado's sitting around. A fort, yeah. But not treasure piles as if we were a bunch of sea-legged Blackbeards for 200 yrs... we brought steam tech, we didn't forget it and then have Ben Franklin come back from Paris and go "yo check this **** out, you guys must have all amnesia cuz we made this **** like 100 yrs ago". That's what happens in BT constantly, it's dumb.

TT jump distances but kill the ability to aim the whole jump.
That's 90 meters forward. The height would be about 12 meters (initial jump = 6, + 2 hexes at 3 each = 12 meters high point if going 90 meters forward, max height 18 meters if going 30 meters forward.)
Thing to keep in mind the Highlander would be about 6 meters shorter minimum in BT. (Tallest mech in BT up til 3065 is 14.4 meters [Executioner]. Even the Behemoth is shorter. The one in MWO is 17 meters tall, and the Highlander is not a tall mech. MWO's Centurion is 14.7 meters tall, when it's meant to be a 'tall' medium at about 10 or 11 meters at the most.)
The Highlander isn't described as a luxury ride. Edit: Image credits Haruko.
Yet... Keep in mind this first image has a pilot scaled to 5'0.
This one has the MWO-sized pilot.
You could fit the original Star Trek Enterprise's bridge in there with Kirk, Spock and a few others -- and it wouldn't be much of an exaggeration.
That said... The height it gets into the sky wouldn't be that bad. But it has no vertical lift and that's where the problem rests.
Far as ability to aim, I'm indifferent. The main issue is instant convergence; poptarts were never an issue before the removal of delayed convergence (it was virtually impossible).
As an alternative to that, put a lot more forward movement into the jump. I can barely make 40 meters forward with a jump.
