I am sure this topic has been bought up before ... i just finnished a couple of games in my panther ... it is no worse or better than many other light mechs out there ... but it deose show just how fudging ******** the whole consept of mech design is who in their right mind places a main battle weapon in a position where by you have to expose the more important and fragile parts of that weapons platform before you can bring it to bare on the enamy ... its like have the main barrel of a tank slung underneath its track .... fudging stupid ....

Just a rant .... please dont comment .....

You don't want to expose the arm to fire the weapon in that arm?

There are advantages to having arm-based weaponry, some rather large (aim up/down, aiming speed not locked to torso twist speed, firing arc not restricted by torso twist arc etc).

Eh, the Panther seems okay, but I'm never going to mount anything on them outside of 2xLL in the right arm.

The missile slots are a bit rubbish in that your very limited in what you can run in them, and the energy arm is limited by the fact that anything your can do with it can be done better in a Firestarter/Jenner at a faster speed. They're just too vulnerable to getting all their weapons shot off in one go. I'll be selling all of them (except the 30% bonus one) once I've completed all the elite perks.

They are a really cool looking mech though

To each their own, I guess. I love my Panthers and run the 10K with an ERPPC+ASRM4, the 9R with a PPC+SRM4, and the 8Z with LL+2ML+SRM4.

They're damn tough little beasties.

Be happy about the silly design. There wouldn't be mechs if battletech made sense.

There is power in placing that weapon in the arm ( sure its going to be lost with the arm but ) the weapon's agility in that location is unmatched by anything a more protected torso location could achieve.

Panther is a laser gunslinger !

To be fair... MWO doesn't exactly emulate how these machines would "actually" work in combat. For that, read the novels.

Idealy, a panther would likely be firing from cover, peaking only that arm out long enough to take the shot. it would be adjusting the arm around things. Think of a mech moving like a soldier in ArmA for instance... where you can lean around corners and adjust the height of your aim and the like.

MWO, and every mech game, has never taken this into consideration... thus we get weird locations of hardpoints.
