Here's a target to aim for:

If you're playing an Assault: try to be top 3 for highest match score on your team.
If you're playing a Heavy or Medium, try to be in the top 4.
If you're playing a Light, try to make top 5.

Think to yourself, every move you make: "Is this move going to put me at risk of taking critical damage?"

If so, try not to do it. Pugs are terrible, they walk right into your hands if you let them - you just need to have the patience to wait for them to do it. Stick with your teammates so that you're less likely to get focus fired - you should be able to live longer and attain higher scores.

For me, the really sad matches are where I'm first to die in the first 3 or 4 minutes into the match because of a really dumb move... and I still get top match score. How pugs can be that bad... ... *shrug*

edit: I just came out of a match where I AFK'd for about the first six minutes on Terra Therma because somebody knocked on my door. When I got back... I snuck right up behind a Heavy Metal... two alpha's in the rear CT for a fresh kill, then I got a Centy on an ammo explosion because he had ammo in his legs, and then I snuck up on a Raven that seemed to be afk or typing. AFK for most of the match, still got three kills and 53 match score. The bar for this challenge is indeed set low. =P

I've been out of the game for a few Months, and this is my first weekend back.

30 Points is a kill and assist in a Locust. A kill and assist, with less than 200 damage. I suggest you shoot more things and don't Rambo.

This challenge is not challenging. I rejoice at the free Cbills.

Ok, please give me advice of things I can do differently to increase my score. I'll try haning out with assaults because my Centurian usually gets put in a lance of Ravens, Firestarters, and Jenners so there's no lance formation bonus for me.

Did 20 games with my Cent I am a GOWDAWEFUL player did not miss the 30 point mark ONCE in that thing, try shooting at things it does help you know.

If your such an elite player why be in solo que? I can see the occasional visit if your group isn't on but the truth is elite players come for the easy ride and cbills clubbing baby seals all the way. Then they come here to tell us all how bad solos are.

If your always in solo your far from elite. Instead your an opportunist.

I know real elite players, several are my friends. They rarely go into solo because the challenge isn't there.

If your dropping regularly into solo your far from elite. Your a fraud.

To make assault-matches scored is not so easy, be patient in the match.

Fixed that for you.

That's what i do actually. The lights have a different job than the mediums, and trying to keep up with them while in a medium will probably get you killed without contributing much. Stay with the main blob and swing from flank to flank looking for targets of opportunity (targets to focus fire on), and to spot potential flankers (and warn the group, not engage them outright unless it is to delay them).

I'm surprised by this thread. This is by far the easiest challenge PGI has done so far. I had all 20 matches in my Panther qualify, 1 match in my crab and 1 in my cent that didn't. Ilya has been having a harder time but I'd say only 1 in 5 don't qualify.

The hardest thing about this challenge isn't getting the right score, it's finding a match in CW.

EDIT: because I cant spell

The only potential rough spots are for lights in this challenge. 30 points is trivial, and if it's giving you trouble in a steady string of matches...I'm sorry. You're bad. And likely on a bad team to boot.

I love this "challenge" because its kinda making group queue champions stoop to the solo queue.

I've got no idea what's frustrating about this event. I think i got 21 out of 22 or 23 matches as qualifying :D

Oh c'mon, 30 points.
I'm not even close to be an above average competitive player and I can score 30 points even when my team loses (on most battles).

Don't doubt lights! I've been top score in a locust and panther many times.
But I can't top 500 damage in an Assault for the Life of Me...

30 points is a godsend. If you can't pull 30 points then you are doing something horribly wrong. I get on average 50 points even on games where we lose. It has nothing to do about the team win or lose, it comes down to how you perform itself. This is the best chanellege yet.

I think this type of challenge has a lot of potential, but I just wish it was step based instead of all or nothing. For example:
15 points - $25,000
30 points - $75.000
45 points - $125,000
Maximum $2,000,000 per weight class.

They could break down the reward system even further and start giving bonus rewards to individual contributions like kills, assists, spotting etc.

Just take every way to earn cbills that we have now and add more cbills to it.

Like maybe just take the baseline rewards and just double them.

Wait...

It is really not a hard challenge at all. I think it took me 22 games to get the 20 I needed maybe 21 shoot maybe even 20. All I remember was how easy it was to get. (Only did one weight class so far.) And about half of the games were losses. It is a simple matter of shooting the other mechs and not doing studid things like charging in alone.

Scroll through all 5 pages of this topic and tell me how many "new players" chimed in.

Or people that play in the solo queue exclusively.

I'm happy all these wonderful group people had no problem qualifying in each and every match they played in, win or lose. Those of us that don't play in the group queue for a reason, however, might have different views. It's bad enough being saddled with the "the better you are, the more you carry" syndrome on a normal day....sometimes you get lucky and your Elo hits that "sweet spot" where you're actually playing with mid-range players.

But when a group guy comes in, it all goes to hell in a handbasket.

You have one Elo per weight class, period. It isn't separated into group/solo buckets. So, if you play in a unit that does fairly well on average, your Elo is going to be pumped up pretty high.....but it's not based on your performance in a semi-general melee, it's based on how well you perform your position in an organized group. BIG difference. So, when the high-Elo guys come over for some half-baked, ill thought out event, the new player/experienced player ratio gets thrown completely out of whack.

I still can't understand why they couldn't run the event in both queues and keep the server load about average for both instead of overwhelming one of them.

Sorry to be "that guy" but it's almost like there are two different games being played here. I've been checking the scores for everyone and at the bottom of PUG land where I reside all but 3-4 players on a winning team are more than 30 points, and all but 3-4 players on the losing team are under 30 points. So saying that you can get 30 points with your eyes closed is not the case for a sizable number of players.

I am aslo sorry to be that guy, but I'm playing the other game you're talking about where the match score average for both teams is typically 40-50 and top players are 90-100+.

30 points is a gimmie unless getting stomped. I get 30+ in a Panther with a ERLL, TAG, and LRM5 to put it in perspective.

I went through this challenge with 81 games played, in one of them I was TK'd at the beginning so wasn't able to qualify.

In all honesty, you can be an atrociously bad player when it comes to situational awareness and ability to hit targets you're shooting at and still do 30 score every game, all you have to do is know the mechanics of the game.

Things to do:
- Stick with your team. If you want score, never wander anywhere on your own.
- Equip long-range instant damage weapon (Large Laser or equivalent) and blink it at every new enemy which appears... does not matter how much damage you do, as long as you scratch their paint job with it so you're qualified for a Kill Assist.
- Target every new mech you see, just to see if you get a Scouting bonus.
- As soon as you see the missile icon on top of one of the hostile mechs, switch your target to that mech for Spotting Assists.
- Always target a mech being focus fired by your team mates, to grab that Savior Kill.
- When shooting at opponents try to aim for weakened components, arms or legs... get those Component Desctruction bonuses.
- Most importantly, DO DAMAGE. The faster enemy mechs die, the less damage numbers there is to go around. You don't want to destroy the enemies quickly, you want big damage numbers.

Follow those steps to making consistent big end-game score aswell as good c-bills in general. Stop worrying about wins and losses, you can easily make up for the small bonus for winning a game by abusing the mechanics to the fullest.
