Grasshopper is DOA.

I love when people declare things doa ... nothing is truly bad until tested in the trials of combat.

I'm glad to see they made the Zeus not as fat chested as the Awesome, haven't seen it from the side to see if the torso sticks out but I like what I see. Not that it would have mattered, I would run it even it if had/has Awesome Ctorsoitis.

Hopper looks slim but tall, seems good to me.

I think I'm alone in the camp that says scaling doesn't matter much, and I don't get over cry-baby about it. Could it be better, sure, but its a non issue to me. If a mech is bigger than a Cicada then they are about all just as easy to hit at any range FOR ME.

Either way, I'm excited to Zeus, and kinda exited to 'Hopper (only because I'm not really into laser vomit as a playstyle).

Spent $35 on JUST the Grasshoppers... Anyone know if PGI has ever fixed a model/'mech in the past? Or are they going to be this tall forever

Never has happened. Only hitbox changes are made.

Sorry to say we're stuck with it being too tall. It's not a terrible mech, but you'll never hear anyone say it's OP.

It's amusing that it suffers from the exact same issues as it's smaller clone, the Quickdraw.

I didn't get a Quickdraw because I thought they were too large... I really should have checked the forums before buying them

The Zeus and Enforcer are my favorites from the pack. I don't like the Panther. Can't convince myself to waste any more time with it. I basically despise the Grasshopper. I'm sure people will have good games in them, but I feel like the Gargoyle is a significantly better mech because: Clan Laser Vomit. Hoverjets don't help the hopper. So you're stuck with a short range laser vomiting mech that gets force-fired on any time it shows up, because it's so big.

IS laser vomit is terrible unless range quirked, which the hopper didn't get. So, it's going in the trash bin until PGI decides to make it worthwhile again.

Don't.
I'm having a blast with my pack (up to the Hopper, at least. Assaults ain't my thing.)

Comparing the Hopper with a mech that is notorious for very low slung arms and bad torsi hitboxes is not helping much. This is like comparing the Zeus with the Awesome and saying Zeus is a great.

It certainly attracts my fire more than it should due to its height and width. Not because it is a lethal machine like that of the Jager, or Ilya, but just cause it is so easy to spot among crowds.

The Phract (was, atleast) considered a great 70tonner, no? Was it not be fair to compare the firestarter to the jenner at the time of the former's imminent release?

1. Only the poptarting 3D and the Ilya. 3D is now a goner due to JJ/PPC/Gauss nerfs. Ilya is still doing ok thanks to triple ballistic hardpoints.

2. Firestarter and Jenner comparison is simply not fair due to their profiles. One is humanoid with arm-shield, the other is a box troll with a "Hit me" sign on its CT. They still cannot be compared even today.

Well, all packs can't be solid OP crutch collections.

While this is true, I really wish PGI stop doing such scaling errors in the future--for its own sake. A properly scaled Light/Medium/Heavy simply sells more. As is, I am not gonna touch the GHR, even though I wrote dozens of posts in the past, championing its inclusion in MWO, over the BK. I am not gonna touch the BK either, if it turns out to be Assault sized too.

I dunno... I'm largely ambivalent.

I'm not about to stop eating Burger King Whoppers because they don't look like their advertisements... They are equally tasty, provide sustenance (granted arguable) and while not as cheap as a Big Mac it's not a Hardee's gourmet burger. ^_^

Oh we can debate all day whether I'm getting my monies worth but at the end of the day... I'm not inclined to deprive myself the enjoyment of playing with new toys to prove a point...

I love my Whoppers... and I love my new robot toys. ^_^

Which is said. If they had based their scaling on a set ratio of hit point density, it would have all worked perfectly. Keep it so all mechs have X:Y ratio of hitpoints to surface area unit by sections, and adjust model sizes and/or section structure/armor quirks (keeping as close to standard Structure+armor as possible) as needed.
