Shouldn't be so surprised. C-Bill Hellbringer is still recent and now there is the Grasshopper. And Timbie is ever so popular.

I think a lot of people are tired of getting pwned. They've decided they're going to carry their way to victory. But they can't go all the way into assault territory because they'll become nothing but a long lunch for some PCP Panther jump-sniping from behind cover at irregular intervals, or any Firestarter who doesn't drive drunk, really.
Playing a light or assault 'mech means relying heavily on your team to not be burnouts or under-achievers. Playing a medium 'mech means you're still too small to carry your team to victory. Heavy 'mechs are where it's at for 'mechwarriors who don't trust their teams but still want a chance at victory.
Which is all a result of the Cowardice Meta in pub queue. If PUGs had an ounce of bravery each, I suspect we'd see more balanced drop queues.

Wonder if it has anything to do with casual players looking for the best blend of speed, firepower, and ability to find a fight without getting insta-gibbed by all the PPFLD available out there? Nah, couldn't be that at all.
No one wants to play light mechs because they're either slow clan assault escorts or hyper fast quirked out IS laser/missile assault eaters, a playstyle that requires a modicum of situational awareness to achieve high-rewards with, but is nowhere near the skill level people pretend it is. *I suck, and it's easier to get 600+ damage in a Huggin for me than in almost any other mech*

Its heavies in general:
Timberwolves, Hellbringers, Thunderbolts, and Jagermechs are very common mechs to see.

Yeah I'll try that.
I have a lovely spice-girls vest, picked up in a local thrift shop.. Would you be interested in that?
