It's not a poor translation - it's flavor - just like the Trebuchet has "Trench Bucket" written on its shoulder, it's a play on words.

In defense of Lily: That's not a meme I've come across before, so I assumed that the translation was a {LT-MOB-25}-up, not a deliberate pun. If I was a native German speaker, I suspect I'd be even more likely to think "bad translation" before "I wonder if that's a pun?"

Also, if they wanted to go with the meme, maybe they should have correctly applied it instead. Nobody confuses the text of the original meme with a bad translation.

Hm... actually... if Raketen get indeed not geworfen, why do we call it Raketenwerfer?
Shouldn't we call it Raketenstarter or something? I suddenly feel collective-language-stupid...

Yeah, the translation for Nebelwerfer is literally "fog thrower," in an attempt to fool the League of Nations into believing it was simply a launcher to deploy smoke shells. In reality it was intended to do that, as well as deliver chemical shells and HE rounds.

The later, more famous 5 barrel Nebelwerfer 42 is usually what people refer to when they talk about a nebelwerfer. It almost exclusively was used to fire HE rounds, although it too had the capability to fire smoke and chemical rounds.
