Like the title says, people that purposefully go AFK at the start of the match need to be penelized such as you cannot go into another mech till the one in the last match has been destroyed. People pull this kind of crap so they can make money faster in the game and it needs to stop. Please PGI do something about this. Also if you know that you are going AFK do not pess the PLAY NOW button! Thank you.

So tell me, how do you work out whether someone has gone afk on purpose, or that they have simply had a ctd, client crash, or game freeze requiring a restart. People also have unexpected real life crisises that force them to go afk as well...

In short, bad idea, no cookies for you.

Indeed, bad idea. You have no idea why they're afk. They could be making a cup of coffee, answering the phone, getting a call from a potential employer after a job application or a truck could have just plowed into the front of their home or their mother could have started having a heart attack in the next room.

You'll never know and you have no way of finding out. **** happens, harden up and deal with it Princess. :)

If they had a legitimate reason to DC, then why wouldn't they just want to reconnect?

OP did state that it'd only be until their mech in that game died.

Several times during the pot o gold event I saw completely fresh assaults sitting in a corner of the map staring at a wall, disconnected. That's pretty obviously on purpose.

its not really their fault. you go to start a game and you get 2-5 minutes of wait time before the game starts. then you realize you need more caffine, or the cat wants to come in, or you are alt tabbed out to complain on the forum (im actually waiting for a game right now), or bipolar psycho mother is throwing things and needs to be tazed.

really do you want your life to be wasted 2-5 minutes at a time? when you can use that time to solve all the other little bs problems that get in the way of your mechwarrior. and it doesnt help that the game lies to you about how much time you have left to do those little bs things (ooh 70 seconds thats enough time to get a coke out of the fridge...ok who the **** legged me).

you want to punish people, punish the ones that intentionally leg disconnects. sometimes the game crashes (pgi is not known for its ability to smash bugs), or the driver derps, sometimes you need to reboot. all the ssds in the world wont make the game log in faster and reconnect to your game. i always reconnect if possible, and it sucks to find your mech still alive with the exception of the leg that your team shot out from under you.

what good does that do them during that event? you cant get 30 points doing nothing even for a win.

For the life of me I can't figure out why they did it, maybe they didn't like the map, or they were trying to tank their Elo.

All I know is when someone's in a fresh mech, face to a wall, and disconnected it seems to not be a coincidence.

Face to a wall yeah I hear yah and seems deliberate but if they haven't moved then they probably cant login, its happened to me before where i get dc at the loading map screen and the client crashes I relog and it keeps crashing that I give up and run another mech till this ones available, and well I do feel bad cuz I probably just gimped the team some.

I have also seen the parked-out-of-the-way, shutdown, disconnected mechs. Occasionally they come back to life near the end of the match, or when people start saying they will report them... which sort of tells me those ones are watching Netflix while waiting til the end of the match to go hunting wounded mechs.

Also see the assaults that disconnect at the start of a match on Alpine or Viridian, and people mention they've done it before.

I really can't see how blocking a disconnect/match exit until his match is over is a bad idea... it means, finish the match or wait.

My other question is, except for accidental/RL DCs, or map refusals... *why* would someone disco? Do they earn anything if they do? I would have assumed a zero-dmg / zero-point match would pay zero...

I'll admit I've been tempted, sorely tempted, to just D/C when I end up on terra therma (for the Nth time) in the solo queue, but I've never actually done it.

Reasonable AFK rationale....

A kid is hurt... Check
My beer is empty... Check
I think I $#it my pants laughing... Check
My wife is wearing Clan Camo... Check

AFKs happen. I am guilty of it at times but then again, sometimes you are waiting 5 seconds and other times a couple minutes to get into a game... so it happens. Relax!
