This is me.

The only thing wrong I find with this set up, is if you are pressing group 3 and 4 at the same time with your thumb, you often press the jumpjet button as well. I kind of wish they were a little more distinguished. But so far it's been awesome. And I can change sensitivity.

I'd rate it a 8/10 for MWO. It would be nice if the side buttons were a little more distinguished, and maybe one or two extra buttons (anywhere),

Edit: Logitech G500
Also has a pack of weights as well that you can swap in/out.

I have this simple Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000.
Theoretically allows 4 groups in the mouse, but since the wheel is so stiff to press (not to mention awkward), i use only the thumb button along with the main buttons.
And then i have E and Shift-E though i don't use the latter much.

Overall my weapon groups go like this:
Mouse 1 fires group 1, which usually has lasers, and in some mechs, weapons in the left arm (or side).
Mouse 2 fires group 2, usually has ballistics or weapons in the right arm (or side).
Mouse 3 (wheel) fires group 3, sometimes the same as group 1 but with less weapons, often unused.
Mouse 4 (the thumb-button) fires group 4, usually has close range weapons, rapid-fire weapons (machine guns, SPLs), or SRMs. Sometimes chain-firing group.
E fires group 5, which usually has LRMs or Streaks.
Shift-E fires group 6, usually unused but theoretically i use it for chain-firing LRMs in a LRM-boat rather than mass firing i usually favor.

Logitech G500 - I use 3 buttons on my mouse, with a 4th one as a backup or LRM option. Then I have the 5th group as "E". I could technically have all groups on the mouse, but I don't want to have to move my hand to click a button.

The mouse is ordinary

Its the cleaver placements of those clear plastic sticky dots that makes it special ;)

You don't actually need one button for each group.
I have:
One button hardwired to group 5 (mostly missiles, alpha strike or "special" weapon)
One button hardwired to group 6 primary group (e.g. large lasers in mixed builds)
One button for groups 1-4, cycling when required (which is very rare).

Examples for cycling groups:
- both arms
- left arm only
- right arm only
- my adder's flamer (yes I use it, more for fun)

Razer Nostromo under the left hand, Naga under the right. Both old-ass V1 versions; this Nostromo keypad's getting close to five years old.

I have to remap my controls for literally every game I play, but it's worth it. After enough years with the thing under my hand I can use every button on the Naga with minimal disruptions. Got groups 1&2 on LMB/RMB, 3-5 on Naga 1-3, 4 is currently unmapped but used to be scoreboard so I could see how many idiots on my side were dead, 5 toggles AMS, 6 toggles ECM, 7 cycles zoom, 8 and 9 are vision modes, 10 brings up the map, 11 toggles override, and 12 toggles reactor. Got a really awkward throttle set-up on the Nostromo that makes no sense and grew out of my stubborn refusal to use the worthless Throttle Decay setting...but overall I couldn't make myself game with a regular mouse and a standard keyboard anymore. The Nostromo/Naga combination is so much smoother and more comfortable, I really can't recommend it or something like it enough for people who have money to spend on these things.

I use up to 5 weapon groups.

I use the same mouse that I have been using since my Intellimouse (the original) stopped functioning:

Best mouse ever since the original Intellimouse; produced in 2001, the Microsoft Wheel Optical Mouse.

Razer Naga Hex, but even there i have to admit that i don't feel super comfortable above 4 weapon groups. I actually try to stay at 3 which works fine most of the time especially since i hardly play mechs above 55t.

Then you must not be able to turn right when JJ'ing. Unless if you can perform some finger acrobat moves that I can't imagine!

Its tricky, but then again, I use JJs mostly for getting up terrain so it normally doesn't matter. If I was a light that spent more time in the air than on the ground, then I could see my choice of binding being more of an issue.

For my terrain hopping and occasional poptarting, it seems to work fine for me.

Ever since the times of quake3 the firing buttons have been set to keyboard. Firing with mouse just gimps you.

But that can work only for one weapon group, so ussualy the alpha (or any FLD weapon), is bound to primary button, which is easist to use while moving with wasd, and that is shift.

For other weapon groups mouse1,mouse2, F and G (rarely used). C would be better, but I use that much more often for heat vision. Tried setting heat vision to thumb buttons. Didn't work, screwed up my aim everytime. So the important stuff remains bound on keyboard.

I lose grip and aim worse if I try to do precise fire with any of the mouse side/thumb buttons. Any finger you have to move out of position to reach a button, means a delay in reponse, loss of grip and very likely change of cursor position. So all those razer nagas and many button mice are pointless. Use keyboard for best effect.

I like my G700. The side buttons are for groups 3-6 on most mechs. ECM mechs have a different profile where the group 6 button is the ECM toggle instead. The three buttons near button 1 are for full ahead, full stop, and full reverse (accel/decel on lights is faster than you get holding W). I also bound the throttle +/- to the mouse wheel for smaller adjustments.

I tried using the tilt wheel for DPI adjustment, but it's too sensitive. I found myself needing to readjust every time I used zoom. I rarely play sniper mechs anyways, so I don't usually need to change DPI.

use the side button for close range engagement (MG) small pulse cannons etc.
also added Q+E to weapon group 3 and 4.

with this simple adjustment you can operate 5 weapon groups with ease.
also i don't know about others but side buttons on mouses makes my targeting worse *pressure to press button*

You all are trying to hard. I can do this with a 2 button mouse, it simple, put the other groups on the keyboard. Youre already moving with WASD, use buttons around that, QEZC. I started using this for force powers in Jedi Outcast and still use it in MWO and league of legends. Personally I don't like using side buttons because I tend to pull the mouse when is use and screw up my aim.

+1 G502 from me. And I love my mouse.

Mb1-- Fire group(FG) 1
MB2-- FG 2
Side 1-- FG 3
Side 2-- Cycle chain on/off
dpi switch1 -- Use Consumable 1
dpi switch2-- Use consumable 2
middle mouse-- Target under reticle
Middle mouse R tap- Dpi up (for lights where I use my arms a lot)
Middle mouse L tap- Dpi down (for sniping)

FG 4 I put on my Orbweaver POV HAT switch as up, FG 5 as down.

Only complaint is I have usually used a "claw" grip mouse in the past, or a low profile one, great for FPS. I am getting used to using my wrist more. I have big hands and this mouse is definitely wide, and grippy enough for me. Just wish they would make a lower profile one some day.
