Sometimes I use as many as 5 weapon groups but I reserve one of the side buttons for push-to-talk with VOIP, so if I could use a 5th weapon group I'll just set a less used weapon group (e.g chain firing all of my 6 medium lasers) to the Alt key and that's good enough; I've yet to build a mech that uses 6 weapon groups.

Using buttons on the side of a mouse will throw off your aim, particularly if it's a light mouse, so I never really understood mapping weapons to those buttons.
My mouse is a razer taipan.

Lots of easy to reach buttons, including 3 for the thumb that are actually viable, instead of being a nuisance to use.
It's hard finding a comfortable mouse when you have freakishly large hands. This one is ace.

I was wondering if anyone had ever used one of the 3dconnexion mouses, they look very interesting for gaming.
I very very rarely use more than 3 weapons groups and normally its two.

The only reasons I can think that this would be true is if you had the worst grip on your mouse imaginable, or your eye-hand coordination isn't exactly stellar.

On the Naga the 5 button was always easiest to use because it's right where my thumb rests naturally. 2 is also super easy to hit. So I bind my most common groupings with those two. 1 and 3 aren't that much harder to hit, but I usually relegate them for when I have an AC weapon mixed with lasers.
I'm barely going to go into a match right now. Hopefully it's not too different. But I'm already getting the feeling I need to get used to it.

Usually LMB for torso weapon group and RMB for arm weapon group; or assign to left and right arm weapon group; CMB for head laser, side button for SRM and lock-on missiles.

too bad the old PM42 is not available anymore, I prefered that one, but it broke as we moved.
the 2 thumbbuttons on the PM 42 were somehow better reachable

The only issue currently is, I would like to have more weapon groups available. I could easily need 8 for some mechs.
@Illuzian Pryde the only thing the MMO7 is lacking is a pinky button, I mean an entire finger on my hand that has nothign to do, WHY?

yes the most important thing with a mouse is, they need to lie good in your hands, the best gamign mouse is worthless if it doesn't I for myself don't like those higher mice, and when a mouse is too big for your hands all the buttons get pointless. The naga is such an example. I have rather small hands, the mouse itself is rather big. I realyl wonder how people with hands big enough for this even cann handle all the tiny buttons.
