3 Groups max is needed in this game IMO.

Left 1
Right 2
Keyboard 3 (Primarily for missiles)
Wheel for zoom

And your all set!

I just have a mouse with a mouse wheel and 2 side buttons and it's great; I don't understand why more people don't use a better mouse if they game much on their PC.

Sometimes I use as many as 5 weapon groups but I reserve one of the side buttons for push-to-talk with VOIP, so if I could use a 5th weapon group I'll just set a less used weapon group (e.g chain firing all of my 6 medium lasers) to the Alt key and that's good enough; I've yet to build a mech that uses 6 weapon groups.

I use a Logitech G13 for almost all MWO functions:

with the exception of aiming, zoom, and alpha strikes, which are done using a Logitech M570 wireless trackball:

I use a 5-year old GE mouse I got for $10. My computer's even older. I rarely ever use more than 2 weapon groups. :)

Weapon groups for me are left mouse, right mouse, shift (dedicated to TAG), alt, and capslock if I really need a fifth.

Using buttons on the side of a mouse will throw off your aim, particularly if it's a light mouse, so I never really understood mapping weapons to those buttons.

My mouse is a razer taipan.

Best mouse i've ever owned, by a large margin:

Lots of easy to reach buttons, including 3 for the thumb that are actually viable, instead of being a nuisance to use.

It's hard finding a comfortable mouse when you have freakishly large hands. This one is ace.

I used the Logitech G700s for over a year now and just figured out how to switch profiles so I can use all 6 weapons groups with just 2 - 3 buttons. Handy for alternating long/short range or hot/cool heat management.

I use the Anker gaming mouse and find it to be good and I very much like the sensitivity settings and weight and the macro capabilities.

I was wondering if anyone had ever used one of the 3dconnexion mouses, they look very interesting for gaming.

I very very rarely use more than 3 weapons groups and normally its two. Posted Image

The only reasons I can think that this would be true is if you had the worst grip on your mouse imaginable, or your eye-hand coordination isn't exactly stellar.

2-Button Mouse with 2 Weapon Groups and lefthand Joystick with 5 of 11 Buttons set for Functions and Weapon Groups - works really well after a while.

Up until this very moment. I was using the original "OG" Razer Naga. I got it almost within a month or two of it coming out. It has served me well and will remain in my a drawer in the eventually I need it. It just can't scroll wheel anymore and it's right button is finicky. But it was such a good mouse for MMOs and I've found it to be good for MWO. However the reviews I read about the latest versions have led me to believe that they skimped and so I went with the G600 as the OP did.

On the Naga the 5 button was always easiest to use because it's right where my thumb rests naturally. 2 is also super easy to hit. So I bind my most common groupings with those two. 1 and 3 aren't that much harder to hit, but I usually relegate them for when I have an AC weapon mixed with lasers.
I'm barely going to go into a match right now. Hopefully it's not too different. But I'm already getting the feeling I need to get used to it.

MMO 7, absolutely the easiest mouse in terms of button access I've ever used plus it's adjustable.

I don't use a mouse (for G3+) but a CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Pedals for legs. Mouse for torso and G1 / G2. Track IR to look around.

I would like to have many, many more weapon groups though.

A Gigabyte M6900

Usually LMB for torso weapon group and RMB for arm weapon group; or assign to left and right arm weapon group; CMB for head laser, side button for SRM and lock-on missiles.

cyborg mad catz MMO 7. becaus eit also has a 4 way button on the side.

Posted Image

too bad the old PM42 is not available anymore, I prefered that one, but it broke as we moved.

the 2 thumbbuttons on the PM 42 were somehow better reachable

Posted Image

I miss that mosue, but its out of production. And its 4 way button was a bit biggr and better to control

Posted Image

The only issue currently is, I would like to have more weapon groups available. I could easily need 8 for some mechs.

@Illuzian Pryde the only thing the MMO7 is lacking is a pinky button, I mean an entire finger on my hand that has nothign to do, WHY?

I tried those super adjustable RAT gaming mice but they are just too flat for my hand.

yes the most important thing with a mouse is, they need to lie good in your hands, the best gamign mouse is worthless if it doesn't I for myself don't like those higher mice, and when a mouse is too big for your hands all the buttons get pointless. The naga is such an example. I have rather small hands, the mouse itself is rather big. I realyl wonder how people with hands big enough for this even cann handle all the tiny buttons.
