Hey, I recently purchased the Sparky. I am really enjoying it so far, but now I need two more Griffins and I haven't really paid much attention to them until now. So which variants are the prefered ones and what kind of builds are you guys running in them?

For what its worth, I kept the 3M, setup with this build currently.

Then I'd consider the 1S for your third.

GRF-3M
GRF-1N
GRF-1S

To be honest there are a lot of good builds with the Griffin, great overall chassis, I don't think you'll be disappointed with any choice. B)

How does this mech do for ammo explosion? Is the case there just for crit padding?

I run this mech. It is a beast if you avoid the ghost heat. GRF-3M The rest of the models are meh

Ideally, I'm not 100% sure, but when I've run it in normal and CW matches it would often run out or not matter that much!

All three (3M, 1N and 1S - probably the order I like them in). But here is link to metamechs guide on the Griffin. There are some good builds and good advice there.

I myself don't usually play the exact meta setup, but I still enjoy reading through the info!

I like the 1N. I run it with 3 medium pulse lasers, 3 SRM 6's and a large XL engine. It runs hot but I try to use it as a bit of an ambush mech. I use the mech's mobility to get close to an already damaged enemy (making sure to stay in cover), spring out, fire off a couple of volleys of SRM's and add some wub into the mix. I then run away to cool down. Prolonged combat really doesn't work as the mech rapidly overheats.

Thanks guys, it looks like a good chassis overall. I am looking forward to getting to know them better :) Sounds like the 3m would be the one to get next though.

I like to use STD engines in most of my 'mechs, expecially considering that the 1N has the advanage of being able to shield with the entire left side. So in the tradition of "fast enough, mobile enough and strong enough for what it's supposed to do", I configured mine as this.

81kph un-elited and 3 JJs give it adequate enough mobility to be able to pick it's engagements as needed, punching holes into armor in a brawl with its SRMs and similarly large ones at range with the PPC. It's a reliable skirmisher that has the ability to shield well, isn't bound to the ground and doesn't suffer from a cramped cockpit, which gives you a good overall field of view (something the Shadow Hawk and to a lesser extend the Wolverine suffer from). Not as strong when it comes to pure brawling, but can still hold it's grund well on the ever-changing field of battle.

I run a GRF-1N nearly like yours, but with MPLs. I chain fire the SRM6s and link fire the MPLs. Great for getting in and out of a brawl, and if I play like I'm a light mech I do very well. It's a must to use that left arm as a shield though and it's rare I go through a match with that arm intact.

Don't put SRM6 on the 3M. It has a SRM4 quirk and with 4 pods extremely close together allows you a near-pinpoint 32 damage alpha.

Use ML or MPL for backup and equip the biggest XL engine you can fit. I run this as a brawler in CW and always do 700+ damage on this mech alone. Wait for engage to happen and rush in and unload on some CTs then back out into cover, that's why you need a fast engine.
