KAIFENG, Capellan Confederation -- January 2, 3050

The Fourth Tau Ceti Rangers [4TCR] led the charge to return the world of Kaifeng to the Capellan Confederation. Until now the 4TCR had been employed primarily in a defensive role, securing territory liberated from House Davion. The shift of 4TCR operations to the frontline represents a new stage in the campaign to free the ancestral worlds of House Liao.

Lost to the Federated Suns in the Fourth Succession war, Kaifeng is a crucial agricultural planet, responsible for feeding nearly the entirety of Sarna's population. The four million tons of rice exported annually by Kaifeng will provide welcome sustenance to the surrounding worlds that are returning to the Capellan Conferation at long last.

Celebrations are being planned in the planetary capital city of Mahabohdi.

I am curious about something guys. Are you really allowed to use the name 4th Tau Ceti Rangers for your unit name?

Under unit pre-registration rules, it says Unit Names may NOT be the same as a pre-existing unit in BattleTech Lore.

Then in the full list of filtered units and other blocked names, I did find the 4th Tau Ceti Rangers.

Trying to learn unit naming conventions here as I'm trying to start one too.

Had the name for almost 4 years now. Yes, it's 4th Tau Ceti Rangers - Ork's Hussars.

So you could call your unit Elliots Dyansty Guard or 15th Dracon - Dayes Devils, for example.

Interesting question. When created, 4TCR was titled "Ork's Hussars". Likewise BWC referred to their name as "Bravo Whiskey Company" when the unit was created in MWO, but went back to calling themselves Black Widow Company at some point.

I think those rules exist because MWO has licensed the game property from another company, which owns all the legal rights to the names of specific units from the game. PGI has to be careful with how the license is used. They can't legally give players the rights to use the official unit names, so they issued that disclaimer when the units were being created.

Meanwhile, PGI and the parent company may tolerate our homage to the Fourth Tau Ceti Rangers, but none of the players have any rights to official unit names.

If you want to own the identity of your unit, it's best not to use existing names when creating your unit.
