Trading in any sort of MMO is a big thing. I'm surprised it hasn't been implemented yet.
"I'll trade you Mech-A for Mech-D?"
Weapons, Mechs, Items, Cockpit stuff, etc.

PGI doesn't want to enact this because it means less funding for them.

Charging MC to sell or auction items on a C-Bill based market might work. It would add to the mercenary atmosphere if there was an active used-Mech market.

Trading not done because of farming.
MC cost not done because it rewards wealthy people who farm.

C-Bill % for all C-Bill only trades (maybe 5%?), HBK-4G for HBK-4SP
MC for MC trades (5% again)? Cockpit item for Cockpit item?

I'm not talking about people earning MC. I'm talking, for us to trade, we have to pay a pittance of MC to PGI. It could allow people to try mechs, rather than selling them for the tiny Cbill return, you could trade it on a market for a different mech you'd like to try, so long as PGI got to whet their beaks as it were...
Farming wouldn't really be a thing... Because it would cost real money to enact the trade... Unless someone made a system outside of the games infrastructure, like eBay or something...

That would just be another feature put behind a "pay wall". Without some way to earn small bits of MC, it would be a feature just ignored by many.
Having a CBill and MC way to engage in this feature would encompass more players, and encourage the use of it.
"You can pay 15MC for that trade -OR- 150,000 CBills."

This "Black Market" would be cool, yes...
Trading equipment for cbills, or other equipment, or small amounts of MC.. that's how it should be done.
We should be able to earn MC by playing and grinding extensively. People who have lots of money will just buy whatever they want, including MC..
And to keep the "Pirana monster" fed... they could implement a "House cut" on every deal.. so for every 10MC you earn, PGI would take 0,5-2MC.. This way, PGI could regulate how much MC is being earned without $ going into their pockets..
But truth be told.. $ will always go into their pockets.. because even if I don't spend a single $ on the game, I'm still spending hours upon hours on playing, and that's "meat" for the matchmaker that makes the people that do pay happy they have someone to shoot at..
Think about it... a non-paying player is technically.. a GAME FEATURE for the paying players..
Its us, the poor folk, who could grind and trade our way to bigger and better things..
And it would be damn sweet to transfer gear between accounts..
