That's not automatically the way things go btw. For example, for a light mech to be decent, it's almost mandatory to get a large XL engine for it, along with full DHS, endo-steel and ferro fibrous upgrades. These cost a load of C-Bills. And for assaults in turn, you typically want a STD engine for better tankability, which is also much cheaper. You also pretty much never need ferro for assaults, and even having endo or not depends on your build.

For example a meta Stalker 4N (the best Stalker, not included in the pack), fully upgraded costs 12.5mil: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...9eba26483698488

A meta Raven 3L, fully upgraded costs 13.2mil: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...b8d692bbd26c9b0

And aside from that, most Assaults can pull their weight stock and just get better as you upgrade them. Most will tell you a Light is almost useless or at least a very unfavorable experience to play unless you buy a high-rated XL engine.

What I really don't like about the Mastery pack is the 3F. The XL310 won't find a lot of use outside of that 'Mech and in my opinion, the Stalker makes a rather mediocre missile boat.

Did i use to purchase a normal mech? Yes...it was a careless mistake. Wasted my mc when i had the cbills to purchase and upgrade it.

I spend MCs for hero mechs, camouflages, colors, and mechbays in sale.
Maybe some premium time, but this is often offered with some preorder packs . . . :)

Any other things you can buy with C-bills.

In general, I use C-bills to purchase 'Mechs. Unless I am feeling very impatient, I have a lot of time to spare to earn the C-bills required, even for an Atlas K (which, at the time, was called a "waste of C-bills" by others, which I never found it to be).

I had bought a few Atlases back in my early days with MC, probably around the same time Misery was first released, and since then I have bought more and more MC for MechBays and cosmetics mostly, though recently I have bought a few Mastery Packs, in particular the Spider so I have "early Urbanmechs" now. :P

for me the only thing I've spent real money on was mostly for mech bays which I would advise waiting for an event when they go half off so you can get like 20 bays for $15. an Al la carte Timberwolf and some paintcolors to my unit

The events PGI post like the last lucky charms event has been great to pick up afew mech bays which has been great. but for me always Cbills for the mechs other then my one timberwolf I bought (Was a timberwolf fan since mw2 so that was a given when that first came out)

IMO, buy some heroes and or packs for real $$$ - many of them are worth it. My payouts with Premium Time & Hero mech are usually $275K-$325K per match. That's a significant improvement over the $100K-$150K many people say is their average.

You want to make sure you get a hero of a mech you really enjoy piloting, with quirks & hardpoints for weapons you're adept with. If you're terrible with the AC20 or with SRMs, it doesn't make sense to spend money on a mech that relies on them.

But never, NEVER EVER, buy regular or champion variants with MC or real $$$. They aren't worth it. The champions' XP bonus is - imo - useless. I master my mechs in about 30 matches. That's really not a huge time investment and i see no real benefit in reducing that any further as it's difficult to really judge how good or bad you are in a mech until you've had at least 50 drops in it.

I made one exception to my No-Champions-EVER rule... I got the TDR-9SE(C) because i wanted the flavor of the month to have JJs. Ended up hating the FotM and the requirkening... and haven't even mastered this one out yet. It's the exception that proves the rule, for me.

the timber wolf is pretty much everyones favorite mech. its why they put it on the box

I prefer the Night Gyr or the Mad Dog.

TBR is easy mode in this game anyway...

Also mech packs are rather lucrative way of getting mechs, Premium Time, cockpit fluff and other stuff. I do own 2 Champion mechs. One was free (challenge) the other I bought solely for the fact of converting the EXP on those fun Double EXP and Conversion weekends. I will use the 210 MC i got from this past Lucky Charms event to convert the EXP on it into GXP for Modules and the like.

Even though i only have about 12 more modules to buy before i have one of them all! MUWHAHAHAA! All your modules belong to me!

I have less grind time then i would like these days as well, running your own business certainly eats your free time. So i must take shortcuts here and there but supporting PGI especially after the split is important to keeping the game alive. So i dont CBILL everything.

In conclusion, I have bought every IS mech i own (besides the Resistance mechs) with Cbills and every Clan mech with real money. MC has only ever been spent on HEROES or MECH BAYS.

I'm picking on Mott here because he's my friend, but oft-repeated blanket rules like this represent a fundamental misunderstanding of the nature of value. Value is inherently subjective. It's always a question of what it's worth to you. I have bought a few champion mechs (two JR7-Fs, a SDR-5K, a CDA-2A and a FS9-C) because I wanted the engines and because I play those mechs (well, the Jenner and Firestarter) a lot and the extra GXP is worth something to me over time. It comes down to time vs. cash and how you balance them. I have no regrets about any of those purchases (all on sale and light mechs to boot, but still). I weighed out something like $15 total vs. hours and headache saved and thought it worth it. That's me. A lot of players (obviously) feel that no amount of time saved ever becomes worth real world money. It seems silly to me, but that's the very point: Value is subjective. Now, all that said, I am the owner of 185 mechs and of CB-buyable mechs I've bought only those five champions and two standard variants (one was an accident) with MC so even for me it's an exception.

I would say the %30 xp bonus from Champion mechs is quite useless once you hit mastery on the mech unless you plan to shell out money for MC to convert it to GXP

something you don't need to do you do earn quite alot of GXP over the course of your battles

I primarily use Cbills for mech purchases. My MC goes towards Premium Time, Mech Bays and the occasional hero. There was a Hero sale recently and I picked up a St.IvesBlue to start grinding that chassis.

MC is best used for premium time and mech bays. The premium time will boost your XP and Cbill earnings which in turn help you purchase CBill mechs faster.

PGI gives a champion like a reward in some events, so for free its a good deal :)

I got those champions for free: RVN-3L(C) / CN-9A(C) / CTF-3D(C) / VTR-9S(C) / the are all usable.

Also, Champions come "outta the box" so to speak with all the necessary upgrades and such like DHS, ENDO and sometimes FF too. Most the time they have a valid and often very competitive build as well as a decent engine which is worth its weight in Cbills alone most the time. (in the case of the JR7-F XL-300).

So to say BUYING A CHAMPION is a bad idea is pretty short sighted.....many reason to get them.

I use MC to buy the mech and xfer XP. I use Cbills to buy equipment, weapons and the like for the mech.

I wouldnt feel the need to do that if the grind wasnt so stupid.....but 100K per game, 14 million for 1 mech, needing 3 mechs......just no....dont feel like spending 1000 games just to get 1 mech tricked out.

Well I shall be spending about the amount i would pay for a full priced game. As I would've paid that for any mechwarrior game and they have done a reasonable job (better than Microsoft at least).

I'll get a mastery pack and maybe a couple of hero mechs.

I figure getting the exp on those mechs will keep me occupied enough that by the time I am done I'll have sufficient cash.

I might even be something better than really bad at the game by then as well.
