Excluding the Clans because we all already know who the best are: Stormcrow, Timberwolf, Direwolf in order of weight.
That means any hero, Founders, Phoenix, Loyalty, and Resistance mechs.
For me its the HBK-4G(F). AC20, 3xML, STD engine. It was pretty awesome before the quirkining, now its brutal. I have a pal who swears by the YLW for the same work, but I don't own a YLW and find it hard to justify spending MC on it when I've got the HBK-4G(F).
Runners up: Firebrand and CN9-AH(L)

Grid Iron comes in next on my list of oft-piloted heroes, with an honorable mention to my Pirate's Bane for effort.

The Misery combines the blended perfection of the Stalker chassis with a ballistic hardpoint. So toss up between those two for me.

THe next best c-bill earner for me would be my Blue Devil, the TDK. Almost always on par with the YLW.
Edit: Just compared my twist speeds of the two and the YLW is short of the TDK's twist speed by only 33 deg/sec. That's faster than most any comparable mech out there. Of course with a +56.3% twist rate quirk, you can imagine why.

Also the LCT-PB, the Pirate's Bane; If any mech could be considered P2W, it's this little beast, yes it's a Locusts, that comes stock with Endo, DHS, 190XL and ECM, nothing makes them work harder to take you out, then this thing. pack in a UAV and a Strike of some kind, and laugh all the way to the bank. since you've already scouted out the Enemy, killed their ECM with the UAV, and landed a strike on them, before they know what hit them.

I believe he was talking about the YLW. Also had to read his post twice...
The quartet of CN9-AH, YLW, HBK-4G and Grid Iron are hard to beat in terms of money maker mechs for me. They're all variations of one another in someway shifting focus from speed to tankiness or alpha potential to more DPS orientated damage, but they all work really well.
Edit: I put the 4G in there but mine isn't the founder's version... oh, how I wish it was.

By all means debate it!
Ilya or FB... which one and why?

The Firebrand is a damn good sniper with its high mounted weapons. The Ilya can dps almost anything in the ground while retaining a good speed. Both suffer from XL and both are easy to kill. I am more of a firepower guy so I take what I can to make my enemys bleed. 3 times the UAC/5 does a good job in that regard.
The Ilya might be my most played mech after the Catapult K2.

I would love to reccomend it but jagers are incredibly fragile with xl. If you like Sniping and support fire, their arm hardpoints can't be beat. The underslung arms of other mechs don't give you the clearance you need to fire at any position.
