that IS interesting news.

I suspect that Sony might be easier to work with than HG when it comes to image rights etc.

Hopefully. We can have the Warhammer that nearly destroyed MWO.

This is huge. If they were willing to sell movie rights, perhaps there is hope yet for the unseen.

HG only sold the movie rights. This has nothing to do with gaming, but at least they finally budged.

Well, I've heard Sony can be tools, but they don't hold a candle to the pure, 100% undiluted litigious douche-hoarders that infest the headquarters of Harmony Gold.

Here's hoping.

I imagine there's a special level of hatred for Battletech in HG's heart.... And they can "split" the rights for anything. Just because Sony has the right to make a movie, doesn't mean they own anything else......

Excuse me if this question is stupid but aren't the phoenix-mechs also unseen? How did we get those in the game?

Those were not from Macross universe specifically.

Hug doesn't even have the rights. A Japanese court ruled they bought them from some one who never had the rights to begin with. Just waiting for some one to bring them to court in the us.

Between a potential Robotech movie and the budding Pacific Rim series, perhaps the Mechwarrior/Battletech film that's been in development hell for ages can finally get some traction again.

It is my deepest fear that a mw movie will be treated and filmed just like robot jox or worse. While mechs are awesome the movie would need a real good character drama first

Oh, agreed completely. It would be real easy to fudge the movie up. But in honesty, if they just took the first few Gray Death books and ran with that story, I'm sold.

So first came Pacific Rim. Then Syfy decided to give us Atlantic Rim.

I do not think there is a movie or concept that Syfy will not steal, copy, borrow or mutilate.

So perhaps we can MWO: The Movie brought to you by the makers of Sharknado

I am sure someone with more skills and humor than I can fill in the cast and plot :)

The makers of Sharknado made Atlantic Rim. Not SyFy. The Asylum makes their entire living off of knock-off movies.

If they make a movie of the original Robotech series it will be awsome. Big Time. It gets worse after the originals. But the original is really an amazing story with great characters and everything.

If I remember right. Rick Hunter meets Minmei when he falls into her house trying to learn how to pilot as the Zentreidi attack? He's like "Oh sorry I fell into your house in my robot". She's like "go away". LOL

A battletech movie would be awsome to, in a more Han Solo/cyberpunk sort of way.

That'd be a lot of political history to wade through for an entry-level movie. Gray Death might be safer, since they can just approach it from the merc point of view and deal with all house politics over time.

Perhaps a single novel story then? As much as I love the genre, I don't think it could pull off a LotR double trilogy.....

You're probably right. But knowing Hollywood's lust for book series to movie adaptations, I wouldn't be surprised if they just skipped straight to 3049 and cashed in on the clans.
