You're not going to convince anyone of anything, Darian. Some people are all for Heroic Last Stands by the last lone light, some people will lose their minds because you're wasting eight minutes he could've otherwise used to continue grinding that 'Mech he's trying to skill up on what is obviously a hopeless match, and other people will flip between those stances as the mood takes them.
We all know, beyond the point of nausea at this point, what Piranha's rules are. Reporting a player's position is team treason and is a reportable offense. Non-participation is a reportable offense, except that 'participation' is very, very, VERY poorly described and basically includes someone who fired a medium laser at start-up and then shut down in a corner with 0 damage to his name. Reporting people for reportable offenses is a reportable offense. Playing MWO is a reportable offense. This post is a reportable offense. This post's mother is a reportable offense. This poster's face is a reportable offense.
Is that enough uses of the term 'reportable offense' for this thread? Because that seems to be what they all boil down to, is people flinging the words 'reportable offense' in each other's face. Maybe if I say it a few more times we'll hit the quota earlier and this can die more quickly. Ergo:
Being Vassago Rain is a reportable offense. The UrbanMech is a reportable offense. Criticizing Tina is a reportable offense. Not criticizing Niko is a reportable offense. Russ' Twitter feed is a reportable offense. The Smoke Jaguars are a reportable offense. Post counts over 5k are a reportable offense. Post counts under 5k are a reportable offense. Being Vassago Rain is a reportable offense again. The mere existence of Hawken is a reportable offense. The state of Mechwarrior Tactics and its art assets is an offensive report. Wait, what?

Problem with that is that means no cold-start ambushes. I've managed to pull a few of those off as the last man in the past. Admittedly it didnt win the game, but if you tell people that you're going to try one they sometimes wil give you the chance.

While I'm sure it wouldn't change most of the time this happens, we do have to realize this game is played online and there's a chance they are unable to communicate.

I honestly don't understand why anyone would like to "preserve" their KDR because it does NOT show who's a better mechwarrior. Details here.

If somebody is shut down in a safe location, they easily have the time it takes to type something out that says they plan to wait a few moments before they strike.

THIS
if you are hiding, and you have a plan OTHER THAN hiding....just find your corner, and type out "gonna wait for them to spread then ambush them 1 by 1, i can only go up from here right?"

I do every time bro, just for that reason, does not matter, they blab it anyways. And completely negates any hope that the light might win. Lets face it it, the last light has won the match and numerous occasions.

I think I proved him wrong.
Unless he shuts down in a corner on the far side of the map, best to either give advice, or not say a thing.

I think it's still best to give them the benefit of the doubt, until they go off to the corner of the map and shut down (give a warning, then F9 if they don't respond)
If it's not conquest, at least. Likewise for sticks who decide to do that.
Tell them which targets are cored, where they were last, and other useful information. Let them have their potential carry match without spoiling it with handing their position out, if they were just flanking.
Only after they prove themselves to be cowards should you report the (shut down or discoed) robot.

If they can't accept that, they are free to leave and launch with another mech instead.

Until PGI institutes some sort of anti-stall mechanic, it is a necessary evil. For every 1 guy that is legitimately shutting down to let the enemy spread, 99 bozos are being sore losers who want to stick it to the other team.

I see plenty of people do this, except they're sitting in the corner for much longer than necessary, too long. It only takes a minute for the enemy team to spread out. Sitting in the corner shut down, waiting for an enemy mech to show up really does prolong the game un-necessarily. As soon as you're the last guy, they'll start spreading out. Best bet is to wait maybe 30 seconds and then start hunting them back, asking team-mates if any of the survivors are easy targets (open CT/ST, out of ammo, most guns gone, etc...). If you run into an enemy that's got armor everywhere, just break off and try find a more damaged target.
