okay.

because the more I look at this sketch - the more I realise it is the best Marauder I have ever seen. All of the old designs I ever saw for this unseen looked dumb. The reseen Marauder looked even worse. The MW4 model was a slight improvement bit still too unbelievable..

The original idea of a massive bird-walker with a huge gun mounted on its head/back meanwhile had serious potential.

This drawing has converted me - even after spending 30 or so hours trying to scratch-build a mini model MW4-esque Marauder.. I am going to build this one instead. It is just too awesome to ignore.

Mass props FD. Love your work. You have done the Marauder a great service by making it look as cool as this.

I'll stick to my own version. I'll let Alex beautify his own work!

Bishop's Marauder... because we Cappies sneaky like that... and he drew me running from a Steiner

Then there is this good verson that, unlike the FD's Marauder at least, could actually get approved by that toilet paper company. Made by a guy calling himself Shimmering Sword:

Ah Adridos, my Death Commando friend....

Sneaky you indeed are, but as with all things Capellan, very outdated. Allow this Rabid Fox (I know, a Steiner in the Davion Intelligence Services, wtf?!?!!). That was my early concept sketch.

Also I was by no means comparing my work to FDs, just out of respect for him, or SS, I don't toy with their work. I do sometimes get some cool ideas from them, and their work has definitely helped mine progress, but I am by no means in the same league as Flying Debris, Shimmering Sword, David White, TG, or Plog. (Though I still contend that Shimmering's Marauder looks so massive it would make a better Marauder IIm, but then TG and I had some good long discussions about the lack of any sense of unified scale to the various Battletech artists and designs.)

Anyhow, the "finished" version of my leaner, more "Canon" Marauder was this:
Posted Image
Accenting both the vulnerable AC mount and hip rotation ring, as well as placing the AC/5 over the correct section of mech. The Cannon itself is pretty close to scale if you consider that it makes up over 10% of the mech's mass.

Then my more "MW:O" re-imagining of it
Posted Image
With a more "bulky" armored look, though still leaving the fluff content in, like the easily damaged AC. (My re-imagined Warhammer in the background)

and a "Final" version MWO style based off some input from TG (I have found many of the Btech artists to be very helpful and willing to give suggestions.
Posted Image
My biggest lack, I believe is that I don't have any understanding of CG design, so I am doing everything the old "pen and paper" method. I also only really started any serious attempts at drawing about 4 years ago, so I got a lot of catching up to do.

and since he brought it up  , this is Adridos attempting to qualify for the New A... something Marathon, with a little Personal trainer help from a re-imagined Golitah

One thing I try very hard to do, when possible is to link the original Unseen design with elements of the Project Phoenix reseens (most of which I hate, but they are canon, and well, let's be honest, well thought out, quality art has seldom been the hallmark of Btech's TROs to begin with...), but some, like the Goliath are nearly impossible to do close to the original, because.. well a Tank with legs is gonna look like a tank with legs.

wow thanks for the response there guys! wasn't expecting to come back and see this thread so beautifully fleshed out with drawings and renderings when I returned...

Bishop, I like your take on the Marauder. I think it looks right for a 70t chassis - much more like a 70 than many other towering machines I am seeing drawings of..

I am fairly in love with FD's Marauder though. I think you are also right in that it looks closer to a 90t assault chassis: large and heavily armoured, and chunky yet still prone and mobile. Have 3 ER PPCs will travel. I think I will build FD's mech and call it a Marauder IIC in my little tabletop Star of Clan mechs. The other Marauder I have built - I will finish as the lighter IS chassis (see my mech production line thread).

N/B I always loved the idea of the Marauder IIC for its being something like a bigger and heavier assault version of the Timberwolf - sharing some similarities in its shape, but fleshing out its size and punch (this was many years before the Madcat MkII made its debut in MW4).

Ugh.. If only we could have the MW5 intro Warhammer, and FD's Marauder in MWO..

By the way I feel like your take on the Warhammer resembles the Awesome with its arm sheilding - and that is just observation and not criticism.

Again, very nice work - and thanks again for sharing it :(

of? Bishop's designs? or my miniatures?

I am also thinking of having an FD-inspired model Marauder (IIC), and an MW4-inspired IS 70t Marauder.

Maybe I will sell my IS Marauder model...
