OP all of you have some good ideas but as a new player I just have to ask (Why can I not play CW and just have fun?) It takes so long to get a CW game then when I do get into a game very rare under 30+min wait it lasts like 3-10 minutes and its a total stomp?

You ask why does this matter to the OP'S topic I have to say if there are no new players to join IS or Clan teams what does it matter how the rules of engagement play out? I would suggest to PGI and Devs make CW fun for everyone by better rewards so more players will join CW and join teams.

Overall I really like MWO it could use some more game modes for CW and solo play and better rewards for both game modes.Another thing is where do join the game chat? like a social lobby? So I can talk to players ask questions and get some answers to things I cannot find on the forums?

If 100 new players join CW and 50 go clan and 50 go IS, both sides will get a match, and may get excited about CW and MWO and get more people to play it.

If 100 new players join CW and 100 go IS because clan mechs are too expensive, that 100 will wait in a queue, get no games, then go tell everyone MWO sucks don't play it.

Russ and Devs, you really want to fix this before Steam comes and 1000s of new players run into the second scenario.

Leeroy I see your point but I have to ask why do I have to play one or the other IS or Clan? Why cant I decide when I want to play Clan or IS for CW? I went IS because it was cheaper yes I bought 2 mechs of the same type with my cadet money then bought 1 more for cheep.

But I did try the Clan trial mechs for CW and got totally blown away in like 1-2 shots I was like heck no this is a Clan mech and it was like I had no armor at all just paper.I guess if there was a trial vs trial mode Clan vs IS it might have been fun because the mechs would have lasted longer in battle but my trial Clan mech experience with CW was like 2-4 minutes and I was out of mechs.

When there are quirks like 200% DPS (Dragon) or mechs like a old-laser-equipped stalker that are objectively, mathematically a superior large-energy-boat than the Warhawk, then it is very safe and objectively to say that some (<-!) IS mechs are indeed overpowered and need to be nerfed.

I think IS vs. clans should be balanced in a much more elegant way, for example by giving only the IS consumables and/or even more of it. Like mines, ammo packs, etc. So the IS would be buffed (<-!) to have more tactical options ("play dirty") while the clans have better tech per se.

Yeah. That sounds so fun for those of us on the IS side. <^>

Also the Timberwolf can carry the same firepower as the Stalker. It's 10 tons lighter, has JJs, and is more agile/mobile. The Stalker can outrange the Clan ER medium lasers, but that's about it.

As a new player I would recommend you play in standard pug drops for a while until you have a good feel for all the class types you intend to play in CW, it will also give you time to rack up c-bills and buy your own, customised mechs. Playing CW as a novice, while not in a unit and in trial mechs is going to hurt.

But then again, this is why people join IS when they're new to the game. The Mechs are cheaper to buy and IS trial mechs are more user friendly.

Now that we have CW, new players are going to want to play and they are going to follow the path of least resistance: the Inner Sphere. PGI really needs to either make CW inaccessible to new players without a drop deck or have to seriously look at the rate of earnings for all players and/or bump up the earnings for cadets.

Faction change is not easy because devs want players to identify with a faction to feel invested in a faction.
Clan trial mechs are not a good way to help new players join the clan side.
A new player may try it out once or twice but quit clan after because who wants to play trials for long.
Something needs to be done about the cost divide between Clan mechs and IS mechs.

Especially as they are doing something about the balance of both clan and IS mechs. If they balance both factions so that the mechs are on an equal footing then the prices should be equal too.

It's ok to charge more for clan mechs when their weapons and component parts are better, but when the IS have been tweaked up to the same standard and the clan weapones have drawbacks which (in theory) make them equal, why do the clans get the shaft when paying for mechs of (theoretically) equal quality?

what is a clanmech? what is a IS mech? How does the MWO newbie even differ them in the mech store?
Whats even the difference between clan and IS?

there are so many wrong steps a player can make because he does not know what consequences choices do have because nowhere ingame is any of this explained.

Saw that epic FS9 running 150kph, cool, buys a FS9, and sucks wich stock engine out of money for grindy further 200 matches where a newbie ends with 30-50k Cbills per match.

for the costs? well PGI could enlenghten the cadet boni and increase the total amount to maybe 20million cbills. A player then so close to the chance of bying any mech available no matter if clan or IS..
