150 kph = 41.7 m/s
That's why...

What do you mean? If what you say is true, I should be going faster than a firestarter in a straight line. But I don't
... uh, yeah, you do. =P
Is your Locust elited? Does it have Speed Tweak? Does it have max engine? I run away from Firestarters all the time. It's fun to just laugh at them in chat "haha can't catch me" while speeding away just out of range of their SPLs. It's brilliant.

Well that should be a huge difference. 6M/S is faster than I can run!

Ill use a commando as example because I pilot it more.
Full Mastered, Says im going 171, but it doesn't feel faster than 150, and I have ran to a point with 150kph lights, and they go exactly the same speed as me.

Using my awesome power of Google-fu, it's about the same as 13 mph faster. Compared to us wee little humans that's fast, but in terms of huge stompy robots it's not as impressive.

That said, 6 m/s isn't that much faster in this game, and the fact that our weapons reach 300+ meters ahead of us kind of dampens the effect. If a Firestarter jumps you at 0 meters, you are going to have to run for 90 seconds to finally get entirely outside of its weapon range, assuming it has 270 m MedLas and is giving direct chase. That's a loooooong time to run. A better bet would be turning and engaging or pulling a clever move to get him stuck on terrain or turned around before ducking out.
As a bonus, it has been my experience that most Firestarters or Jenners will run if you can land a single solid hit on a torso or leg that drops it to deep red armor or opens it up. Use that to your advantage in any way you please.

Yea this is true. Whenever Im in my firestarter I can run into groups of mechs and nothing damages me. Firestarter hit boxes are basically cheating. Its kind of sad that a 25 Ton mech is 5 times easier to damage going 170kph than a 150kph firestarter

After all, standing still in a light is a death sentence.
That being said I do tend to put slightly smaller than max engines in my lights. The weight is better served for the weapons, and only go about 125 to 140 kph, not the magic 150.

Yes, I heard that in beta there was a period during which there was an invisible speed cap and the UI lied to you. It hasn't been the case for a long, long time, but the myth persists.

Stop. Just stop. Russ has confirmed repeatedly that there is nothing wrong with firestarter hit boxes.
Learn to leg. Firestarters are very easy to kill with anything but slow burn clan lasers or lrms.
