You should go for an XL engine, and a large one too. The extra speed on your LRM cat is worth more than you might think. I use an XL300, endo, and only 12 DHS (just the two in the engine) to save weight and crits. I would advise keeping the 4 jumpjets too, mobility is king.

Then you should also get artemis, and probably drop the LRM10's for LRM15's. You have the spare tonnage now, and with artemis the missiles get a serious buff so deserve more focus. Ammo is up to you, but I bring six tons.

I assume you use your MPLS for self defense? You can drop them to MLAS without much worry. If your using your self defense weapons, things have already gone wrong. Or you can drop a couple of them altogether and get more interesting things. I run MLASx2, ERLLAS, TAG. I can't live without my ERLLAS now, but TAG is less and less useful all the time and I may drop it soon for more armor.

Speaking of armor, with an XL engine your side torsos will be weak spots, so shuffle your armor around to protect them. I used to use an extra ton of armor (352), and that was a lot better, but 320 is still ok as long as you distribute it properly. But as I said, I may ditch the stupid TAG soon if it doesn't start actually helping.

Good luck with your C1 building! It's a sturdy and surprisingly versatile mech, and excels at a number of roles. And if you get bored with LRM boating (you won't, it's awesome), you can always slap on some SRM's and some stronger lasers and try your hand at cat brawling. The torso twist is a bonus, the massive face, less so.

The mere 4 extra damage you get for the heat is simply not worth it. Strongly advise you to drop MPL.

The best build I worked out is Endo, AMS, XL315, 4xML, 2xLRM15+Artemis, 4 tons of LRM ammo and 2xJJ. Fill the rest with DHS and Endo. Almost a flawless build.

I have a very good and pretty cheap build it does very good damage up to 500 meters and runs very managably temperature wise.

The armor looks skimpy but trust me its almost all off the legs and I have been running it for a while and havent gotten legged yet. You can put a standard 270 in if you have issues with armor.

XL 260
4 ML
2 LRM 15 (4 tons)
Artemis
Endo Steel
17 DHS
4 jump jets

Essentially a heavily upgraded stock layout. Been debating dropping one DHS for another ton of LRM ammo as I sometimes run out in a good match. I don't feel any need to be able to go faster so a XL 260 works fine.

Here is mine:

it runs a bit hot at times, but I'm not sure what I can take out to add more heatsinks.

Mine:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...9355f1e9f5ea825

2 ALRM-15, 3 ML, TAG, 300XL, Endo, DHS, Artemis.

Definately use an XL in a catapult. Only don't if you are trying to make a close range brawling build with SRMs for some reason.

This is my favourite mech. Great fire support and can hold its own once they close in. Mobility lets you stay just behind the front lines with LOS to nail them with LRMs and ML at the same time.

Tag is optional. I prefer to have 4ML but I usually Pug so its good to be able to hurt ECM mechs.

get a 265XL engine, switch to LRM15s, drop 2 heat sinks for more armor. That's what I use. You might also try a 280XL if speed is important to you, for one ton of ammo less, but you should definitely get more armor.

Certainly get an XL engine, catapults are a great chassis for them.

I would grab an XL280, and up your launchers to 15's with artemis.

If you are not deadset on keeping the pulses, you could put reg med lasers in there and up the launchers to 20's with artemis.

This is my preferred C1 build

CPLT-C1

Streaks are decent backup weapons so long as ECM isn't around, and lights don't like to harass you when you have them, plus they deal decent critical hits against exposed torsos on other mechs. 2 large lasers fire without risk of overheat if you just use those, meaning heat problems are minimal. Tag helps increase viability of SSRM2 by letting you lock ecm mechs from further away, and you have a medium laser for adding a little extra hurt when enemies get close when you have heat to spare (you should). Very quick, has a jumpjet for quick dodging/midair spins while moving. Survivability bolstered by small amount of ammo, an AMS, good speed and a standard engine. All in all you need about 4 firing groups, but it's a beast when piloted well.

I'm thinking of making a C1 and was messing around in mechlab the other day. Here is what I came up with.

This is a build that I would like to try out. TAG, BAP, and Art for ultra fast locks mixed with jets. The MLAS are only there for the lightest of self defence reasons.

You can easily drop the AMS and put in another MLAS or heatsink. It's only there because I recently went on a tear trying to add AMS to all my mechs since Alpine made LRMs sexy again.

A couple of the builds mentioned above I really liked and played, XL315, 2 LRM15s. Great mobility, paired with an ERLL and 2ML will also give you some good direct firepower when that Atlas DDC comes into view. The more direct fire versions with LLs paired with SRMs or Streaks are also fun.
The build I am using right now, is heavy on the LRM side, and requires you to stick with the assaults on your team. Slower, but provides more indirect firepower, and also fun to play, in a different way. Providing a lot of covering fire, and prevents a lot of mediums from going out of cover. XL260, Endo, 416 armor, 10 DHS, 4ML, 2 Atremis LRM20s. 8 tonnes LRM ammo.

I think this is the one I will finally stick with:

XL300
2xLRM20 w/ARTEMIS
2xML
TAG
AMS
2 jumpjets

I use this for line of sight support. I want to make full use of the arty and tag. Also for whatever reason when I switch from chainfire to one big launch my damage numbers incresed greatly. For this build I use adv. sensor range and target decay also.
