I stopped playing a while ago.
CW was a great vision in my mind based off of the details that were pitched to me dozens of months ago. I poured hundreds of dollars into numerous packages and since I've felt a little betrayed that this game has not shaped into what I paid for.
In order for me to take this game seriously again, the following needs to happen (for me)
- CW queues need to be separated into two categories: 1-4 man, and 12 man premade. Lobbies can be set up to help people looking for a group.
- More variety in maps/modes
- No more queuing for specific planets' attack/defense. ALL CW queues go into a single bucket for which a planet is randomly selected for an attack/defense. Premade 12 man groups can still choose to attack/defend specifically and which planet.
-The normal MM queue for non CW drops gets pushed aside and CW gets made the default choice for playing.
That last two bullet points get a little more explaining:
I've tried CW several times, which each time the queue going over 10 minutes long. THEN, I have to wait longer to see if anyone from the opposing side wants to play too? Only to drop into an empty match where it's just "shoot the turrets, yay we win"? That's not a fun game, and it's certainly not the one I wanted to help pay for.
For the very last point there - There's not enough players in the current CW format to sustain enough fun to get this game where it needs to be, this being my opinion of course. However, when you're a solo player trying to have fun in a metagame for which you paid hundreds of dollars to see come to fruition, only to basically exclude you, it's slightly infuriating. If we default matches to CW, the player base will instantly increase and queue times will drop. Combine that with the separation of 12 man premades to fight only 12 mans, and eliminate the 1-4 man groups ability to queue specifically for a single planet's attack/defense will dramatically reduce wait times for queuing.
Think about how WoW handled PvP in its infancy. I understand it's a different game but hear me out:
You had 10v10 (Warsong Gulch), 15v15 (Arathi Basin), and 40v40 (Alterac Valley) in addition to a few others, but those ones were the early battlegrounds. Players could group up and queue for PvP in any group size. Players who wanted to be hypercompetitive grouped up and got on teamspeak and rolled, but then they started to encounter other premade teams because of their ranking system. Typically, this lead to the medium level matches being a mix of small groups and individuals, with the occasional premade making its way through the ranks. This left a great taste in my mouth as a gamer, because I could stay competitive and have fun with low queue times and it didn't require almost any pre-planning. If CW in MWO was staged similarly, we could see queue times drop from 10-15 minutes to 1-5 minutes at most. Imagine a queue system where you just clicked "Community warfare drop", and selected your mech(s) to use, and it just auto picked a planet for attack/defend and matched you with other players at similar skill level. Sounds nice doesn't it?
So the TL:DR - Reduce queue times by making CW the default mode of play, combine all CW queues for planets and attack/defend to a singular queue, still have the ability for 12 man premades to choose but they only play against other premades, and make a few more maps/modes.
If that happens, I think this game will have a high chance of success.
