Only partly wrong.

3/3/3/3 is the goal, but the release valves will allow an extra Mech in each weight class if necessary. The hard limit is 4, though. You'll never see 5 assaults on one team, but you might see 4 assaults, 4 heavies, 2 mediums, and 2 lights like I saw today. Or 4/4/3/1 like I saw yesterday.

Even the Elo spread has a hard limit, but last we were told it was wide enough that it should basically never have to kick in.

Technically, the hard limit is @ 5. It's probably going to be more prevalent on mech release days... particularly heavies and assaults.

I'm starting to wonder the same thing as the OP. Last couple weeks has been very odd.

People saying stuff at start like this is their first time in a heavy mech or, like the OP mentioned, starting in noob view mode. Even worse, if I die early I switch around between our team and see who is piloting using a joystick. It is ASTONISHING to see how many people are doing this. Watching them try to aim and fire makes me want to slowly bang my head on my desk. And they end up with sub 200 damage...

I feel sad if my ELO has fallen that badly.
