Not the more famous/obvious point this is a rather old bug happening since closed Beta. Wich i already reported back then hundred times.
The trigger is somehow related to the Server code relating your position and a missuse of the right JJ thrust. The server just go nuts relating your current position update with your real one and somehow ends putting you into the terrain and still mid air (you are still hovering outside of it but the mechs legs count as being inside the terrain) so you can't recover JJ thurst wuch may help you out by popping out of the terrain again
After this happens there is 3-4 endings.
1: both of your legs are stuck, and you can only die in order to finish this state or leave match.
2: you are lucky only 1x Leg stuck after that leg is destroyed you may be set free, limping but free to move
2b or 3: you end somewhat falling mid air and your mech keep receiving dmg until a leg or both legs are destroyed (funniest instance of this happened in Alpine with 2x Mechs falling and warping up around 200m of mountain)
4: by some miracle you are stuck with still most of your JJ thrust, you can thrust yourself up to get free and return to normal play (since it counts you as falling 60-80% total may be needed in order to reach needed lift power)
Also due this is somewhat related to server position and client position it's kind of a lottery sometimes the enemy can't shoot you at all and you shrug most of shoots and sometimes they can land perfect hits on you, and the opposite if you try to shoot enemy mechs.
P.S: as a rule of thumb always always Overthrust before reaching new heights, trying to cut the JJ usage to the minimum may lend to this situation quite often.

Apparently getting stuck in obvious spots in maps is the Players fault !
