I love ac's, they just feel fun to use. But as pretty much everyone knows, clan ac's are.. well pretty awful. Has anyone managed to find any clan ac loadouts on any non-direwolf mechs that work decently?

Well, I was about to say every DakkaWolf ever, but you nixed that.

2 UAC5's are a nice combo on Clan mechs, and i've actually had some reasonable success with them. It just so happens that Clan laser vomit is so good that it makes everything else appear as tripe by comparison.

The CUAC20 is surprisingly good as a single ballistic. I tried CUAC20 on my Warhawk, which was terrible. And you don't see the CUAC20 on a lot of Dire Wolves, because boating CUAC5s is better. But I carry a CUAC20 on my Mad Dog with great success and I see a lot of people carrying the CUAC20 on their Stormcrows, Summoners and Hellbringers.

A few nights ago, I ran into a very skilled pilot with a CUAC10 and 3 small lasers on his Adder, and he did very well.

So it depends on what you mean by "made it work". I think there's a number of CUAC10 and CUAC20 builds that do well. But if you're talking about AC builds that compete with laser vomit and SRM boating, then no.

I'm talking mostly about the CUACs, of course. If you're asking about the CAC's or CLBXs, then my answer is a resounding no. Well, the CLB20X isn't terrible, but that's about it, I think.

It's a bit embarassing to say, but I've actually been struggling a bit to find a Timber Wolf build I like, because I refuse to use any of the meta-builds without missile launchers (or the equally filthy quad SRM6+A with small lasers). But the 2xSRM6, 2xUAC5, 4xML build for the Timber Wolf is the most powerful one I've been able to make, without succumbing to the standard laservomit, or laser + gauss.

Yeah I don't really enjoy slow mechs, and the thought of grinding what.. 60, 65 million for them just makes my eyes glaze over. So zero desire to try direwhales.

2 UAC/5 paired with 4 ERML on the Timber or Hellbringer hurts as well.
1 UAC/20 with 4 ERML offers some good push potential for the Gargoyle in CW.

UACs can be pretty good if you have luck with your diceroll and your enemy is not a light. But as stated, Laservomits wins because it's not ammo dependent and aiming with it is way easier. Also, less facetime with lasers.

They are from a non clanner point in perspective fairly rubbish though. ..

I can ignore the blur and shake I can shoot back and take cover at the same time while spreading damage.

Clan ac are crap from an inner sphere position.

Tried it a few days ago (with 5erml's). First game, 720dmg. Not sure what people are complaining about. Aside from Laser Vomit just being ridiculous.

Timby used to be good with 2 UAC10:s and 4 ER SL:s until the hardcoded jj nerf

One thing to keep in mind is although a Clan UAC/5 (for example) has the same cooldown of 1.66 that a IS UAC/5 has, in reality it's actually more like 1.96. This is because on a Clan UACs first shot the cooldown doesn't start until the burst ends. The Jam-able Double Tap shot doesn't alter cooldown (well, unless it jammed), so it's exempt.

You can just jump up on a ridge in front of them all and start pulling pose after pose while it all spreads out.

I think it's important to keep in mind that clan uac's are used for slightly different reasons than their IS counterparts. E.g. a jäger or cata equips uacs as it's main weaponry, sometimes supplemented by lasers. For clan-mechs laser and uacs are rather two even weapon systems, where the laser delivers an insane punch, and are supplemented by cool acs.

They use clan ac to create panic in most cases.

too many people will just turn and run without returning anything in exchange.

I've actually had reasonably good success with 3 UAC 2s and 3 ML on a Hellbringer. It's great at stripping armor from a distance to make it easier for teammates to finish them off. It doesn't get a ton of kills, but I can pretty reliably top 500 damage, unless I do something stupid.

I love my clan UACs. But, coming from a background of running a support gun in a combat squad, I understand the value of suppression. What do you want; killshot or controlling the combat?

The cockpit clouding and screen rocking and shaking of the UAC stream is continually underestimated in these forums by the whine of the "gimme-PPFLD" crowd. Anyone who understands holding a lead and directing a stream (for example in a MG based flight sim ala WWII) has no problem understanding how to use the cUACs.

Apparently for anyone of the CoD age and younger, this stream concept is overly confusing.

I would gladly run a cUAC on an IS mech, as well as the vice versa everyone else wants. I run a cUAC on nearly every one of my clan mechs, and only on the Dire do I boat them. Augmented with laser vomit and SRM/LRM rattle its easy to top 1000damage regularly.

Stream or PPFLD they are both good systems with pros and cons, but you gotta understand them. Most dont.

Thing is all that cockpit clouding and rocking won't do anything at all to an experienced player, as it doesn't shift the crosshair. So yes you can distract and drive back inexperienced players, but anyone who knows better is just going to slam you in the face (or more likely, side torso) with a 50+ point alpha. spread your damage stream, then do it again. Or simply walk away.

Suppression ability is important, it grants area denial, but a key element to making suppression fire work is the enemy has to actually be afraid of the damage that fire can do. You expose yourself long enough to lay down suppressive fire in a Timber, odds seem high you are going to come away losing the damage trade after they alpha.

I adore my IS AC/5 mechs, but those combine the power of suppressive fire with the ability to do enough pinpoint damage to actually be a concern. I've gotten some decent numbers using a dual c-uac/5 setup, topped 700 in one match - but it just didn't feel effective. I felt like the amount of actual effective damage in that 700 was pretty low and I never really have the feeling I could actually stand on my own very well if I got noticed. My Jaeger can go toe to toe with a mech if it has too, I just don't get that same feeling from the Timber I tried cuac's with.
