I'd like to take a minute to offer a description of my perspective of the group queue as a long time player of MWO, for better or for worse. Every other day I log in at around the same time, quickly group up with my unit, ready up, and...search. While searching I take the liberty to open up a few pages of my browser on my second monitor. The usual's are Reddit, Imgur, Youtube, Netflix (half way through Deep Space Nine) and my unit forums. After about 5-6 minutes of browsing the internet we find a match. I then click the screen for about 2-3 minutes and we roflstomp the opposition with relative ease. Leave match, ready up, surf internet, repeat, repeat, and repeat. This goes on an on until the matchmaker gets tired of us winning and patches together a nightmare ELO concoction of competitive players from the depths of hell. We then get absolutely obliterated. Back to square one. Reevaluate, adapt, ready up, and search. This is only an estimate of coarse but it's not much of a stretch to say that for every minute of actual game play I experience I spend 2 more minutes surfing the internet while we...searching.... The group queue has become a momentary distraction from surfing the internet and conversing whilst drinking our way through the grind. This has driven us to the long awaited and unfinished community warfare. Here we have actually found stiff competition and are really enjoying the hell out of the game. The matches are long hard fought engagements between coordinated units with intense peaks and anxious lulls. I really do see a lot of potential in this game mode and I am looking forward to what is coming down the road. I have no idea whether or not this is helpful to anyone. I hope this is constructive feedback. bye

Sometimes, I do take a Wubess robot, because the WubShee queue is simply too high.
And then I get sad, because my Myth Lynx beat all the PUGs...but couldn't carry because it's a sad robot.
Group queue prevents some of that sadness. As you say, it does give plenty of time to ForumWarrior, or watch humorous videos on the Interweb.
Some nights have worse queues than others. Deck composition also makes a difference for wait times.

Less Assaults and Heavies in team and you're good to go. If you stacking-up 3A3H groups you will ALWAYS going to get the longest wait time until MM will be able to somehow patch-up a reasonable team with you in it.
