Grey Death Finaly Working!

I'm kinda frugal, so the idea of making extra C-Bills appeals to me.
Most of them I like, and a few I have been struggling with, trying to find a build I like.
The Grey Death, I was lost on.
So here it is.
Max XL engine. (=XL360)
UAC5 + 4tons ammo - LT
4MLs - Arms
336 armor (less on arms, but I'm thinking to go less on legs)
It does 116, and wrecks face.
I try to shield with arms.
Plus sometimes, I just stare at the GD in the mechbay, and touch myself......

I honestly have a hard time telling myself I need an XL280 vs the XL255...
4ML + Gauss rifle/AC10+narc-or-srms >> UAC5 + 4ML.
*I hate single-mount UACs; they are a real drag when jamming RNG isn't your friend.
Still, I suppose it would be quite startling to see a Shadowhawk outrunning a Stormcrow for once.

I'm in a similar situation. The Shadow Hawk was my favorite medium until the quirks happened, now the Centurion might be my favorite. I haven't played a Shadow Hawk in a LONG time.

Like this?
I'm also still finding a build that "works" or "fits" for my GD and have been settling for the Gauss + 4 MLs but it doesn't work that well like on my 'Crows because of the big height difference between the ST and Hand weapon hardpoints

I don't think I have any medium mechs with a single UAC5. Or even any heavy or assault mechs. A single UAC5 just seems like a bad option for me, in the current meta. Without the AC20, I'd probably install a couple of SRM's.
However, if it works for you, then it works for you. The Vindicator is hailed as the worst medium mech in the game, and yesterday I saw a guy absolutely wreck face in a Vindicator in multiple matches. So you never know.

The Vindicator 1AA is still one of my favorites to play. 2 PPCs and a MLaser running at 116kph with great JJs makes it a ball to play.
The bummer for me is the Panther came out and the 10K plays very similar to the Vindi 1AA. I notice myself preffering the Panther over it.
And why can't the Vindicator 1AA get ERPPC quirks instead so I can, you know, protect myself at close range from lights? Oh I'm sorry, I have that 1 MLaser lol.
Anyway...
Vindicator 1R is OK. Throw in a PPC and some MPLasers and your golden. The Vindi 1X is a train wreck.

Only a 295, but I want ammo for my kidney buster and then there is the LpL....
Its still fast enough
I could back it off some and bias towards more hit but the D has always been about speed and this is the slowest iv ever built it to go.

Ironically, as some others have pointed out, the Yeng Lo Wang with 2uac5 can be really nice. Yes, Yeng Lo loses that cannon arm and you are neutered, but a YLW pilot keeps that arm tucked and if he's serious about an up close fight, he's circling so that it's on the far side of his body from opponent, playing the little turn and fire game, which you deliberately pay attention to when your enemy fires, so that you explose that arm when their shots are on cooldown, letting you then twist, BAM BAM with UAC5x2 then twist back.
Oddly, a uac5 has served me very well also in single, on centurions and the occasional shadowhawk, wolverine etc. If you know how to use it right, always keeping the off side away, you can keep it long into the battle and rather than spamming it and jamming, you just let it do it's consistent normal fire, only double tapping when you have the right heat levels or are trying to finish opened components. I've had some insane games where I just pumped consistent damage out of a uac5 on a centurion D, with good ammo and either 2mpl, 1 lpl, or an er large in the CT. Despite not having a high alpha, the uac5 on that Cent-D often really did work, hand in hand with the laser.
