I really wish I could talk too a Dev directly too ask and know first hand the simple reason of why on all these subjects. Because as far as I see it the work on CB was great I felt at home and felt like I had my own mech, having too keep it functional and armed, The great environments that had lots of detail , plant life and textures , the Mechs which had beautiful artwork and some notable things , the Better catapult model , the Atlas Eyes and so on. The sweet sound effects that made you feel like you just smacked that guy with a nice punch, and felt powerful in the weapons you fired. The awesome popcorn ammo explosion effect and of course the famous cork screw SRM and LRM missiles. Dev's if you are watching this thread or some one higher up. Please keep all this in mind that made the game feel great. You did it back then you can do it again.

Maybe this is all rose tinted glasses, maybe not.

How about a petition to get a test server up and running with old code? I would download an old client shell to play it. I certainly recall more fun back in beta than what it is now.

But maybe history is a little blurred by time here.

The old heat vision
They removed it because of framerate issues on older computers. I don't get it; why can't that be in graphics options?

they removed it because there was absolutely no reason not to use heatvision all day long. it was just too good.
the black camo Atlas DDC waiting in the woods 1500m away? no prob, use heatvision. it was stupid. and even nowadays heatvision is too good. i use it on nearly very map, despite the hot ones and alpine.

This is crystal clear vision. Watch those videos on the last page and see for yourself. the game was much MUCH more immersive in closed beta, no questions asked. PGI couldn't fix the game so they just cut features until it worked. They just ended up having to cut everything that made this unique\better than the old MW games. Hell, they cut some things that old MW games had, like IK.

^ This.

But, was disallowing heat vision on certain maps ever talked about? Or rather, only allowing heat vision on maps that actually are cold: Forest Colony Snow, Frozen City (+ Snow), Alpine, HPG, etc....

This would allow us players to actually fight and look around our terrain, rather than strapping our MAGICGOGGLES on when we land on Viridian Bog and scouring the screen for specks of bright white behind some leaves. Speaking of Viridian Bog, I wish they'd kept the fog we used to have, it really made it different. Pilots can't always choose their drop conditions.

Wow, I knew that it looked way worse now, but seeing it next to each other ... I think MWO really is the only game on the market that's regressed graphically. And not only a bit, it's gone from "quite cool looking" to "2005 called, it wants its graphics back".
Someone should write an article on that.

Man...all the good memories.
it makes you wonder... what happened to the people who originally created MWO. And why today's PGI can not continue on their footsteps.
It seems like that a team created the skeleton on which MWO is based and then left. and its been 2 years the new PGI has been trying to analyze their work... ditching every aspect they could not figure out.

Could anyone tweet this pic to Russ? I'd really like to know what he has to say to this.

right?!?!?!

whoever was capable of crafting such an amazing pre-release product should be capable of crafting an even better POST-release product! right?!?

or at least maintain the same level of quality?!?

I must be on an island

But guys, we need to cater for the people who still use potatoes as PCs. I mean, this game runs still like sh*t on those but hey, at least we got some fps for the extremely reduced graphical fidelity.

This picture kinda makes me angry because everything is a washed out mess now. And the cause are stupid video filters and other questionable effects which makes this game uglier than it could be. I have a potent rig under my desk and MWO, while using pretty much of it's processing power, still suffers with low fps while looking worse over time. Have you seen the trees on the new CW map? Gross, absolutely gross. *shiver*

I don't really know if the engine is at fault but PGI should definitely do something about the performance. Sadly, graphics ain't mechpacks and don't bring money in so we won't see anything on those lines.

I weep for the lostech that we, the new players, will never get to experience. But as long as hitreg remains a crap-shoot and they can't afford to maintain international servers (I'm doubtful about that point), they have much bigger things to fix. The only question is, will they hurry up? Hope can only last for so long.

And for the veterans here, I've read the Lostech list, but I can't quite imagine how closed beta feels like. Does it feel like the somewhat whimsical and open-ended experience that videos show back then (particularly the older TheB33f videos), or does it have hints of the deathball laservomit/nascar meta that we have today?

PS. [Wrathful Scythe], your signature is +1 for me . . .

That picture I took I had every thing pumped up too max including TXAA and not even close too how it looked. This was all over even on other maps like River city. But not only the graphics but the great sound effects Showing the ammo explosion now long forgotten and some other great sounds. If some one could tweet the picture too Russ on our behalf it would be much appreciated I don't have twitter but I am sick of how the game is continuing too go down. I still have hope and faith but its running out and soon I probably just call quits and return too MWLL.

closed beta felt like the battletech game I always dreamed about. The slow pace of combat\damage combined with the collisions\knockdown and beautiful effects made me feel like I was piloting a mech. The current iteration of MWO feels floaty, fake, plastic, gamey, and cheap, in comparison. It's pathetic really.

Every single other game I've played always moved forward (Exception of Star Wars: Galaxies, damn... that was a shame), If you take a look at world of tanks in CB and now you see a absurd improvment. WoW also, they ramped up the graphs to stay up to par with the current tech.

MWO seems to go backwards. The game used to look and feel SOOOOO much better. Just look at the video that Khorn uploaded. It feels like mechs, not idiots in a robo-suit.

Please PGI, bring the old glory back to us.

OMG Khorn you are KILLING ME. The weapon impacts look SO GOOD... the old walking animations (before they made everyone twinkle-toe walk at 2x speed)... when those LRMs hit that hunchback around the 3min mark, and armor flies everywhere.... PGI BRING IT BACK. PLEASE. JUST GIVE ME A TEST SERVER WITH 8v8 AND ONLY THE ORIGINAL MECHS I DONT CARE! I'd take CB with all its flaws and limitations over MWO2015

1) Possibly. Russ mentioned in an old town hall that he'd get someone to look into graphical fidelity. Unfortunately, this is a Free-to-Play game, meaning its graphics must accommodate entry-level gaming rigs to include the general public. Hard to pull off when you went with the Crysis Engine. (Unreal, on the other hand, runs on toasters)

One of the many reasons I wanted to grab PGI, pull it aside and ask "What the heck were you thinking!?"

Even the most basic research could have taught them this. :(
