No.
To expand on why the XL is a bad idea on the Crab:
1. You generally don't need the weight.
2. You will never get the crab fast enough to make a super sized engine worth it.
3. You are a priority target, along the lines of a Direwolf, so you are going to take immense amount of fire. IS XL engines in such cases are terrible terrible choices.
As to what sized engine to use, that depends on what weapons you pack. I run a very close range AC40 + 2 ML + 2 SRM4 build, so I can fit a larger engine than the STD 300 it comes with (325 I think).
If you're running dual guass and dual LPL, you'll likely want to stick with the STD 300.

I have run it with and without XL. Right now I have a 300XL, twin AC20, LRM15 and an ERPPC. It does well, and could do better with a better Pilot than me I'm sure.

But why do you use an XL with that? It doesn't need an XL for that weapon loadout.

I've found no reason to use anything but the STD300 engine, 54 kph with all the excellent weaponry and armor you could wish for.
Normally I like 60kph minimum in an assault, but the crab doesn't need the speed. The torso twist speed is already great with a 300 engine.

For me the 2 gauss + 2 PPC build works well with XL350, and a few other long range builds as well. All brawler builds should use standards.

actually the crab goes well with xl... for a 100ton mech. Depends on loadout to be true but the mentioned dual gauss/dual PPC works great with XL350 or STD300.
This is a second line damage dealer and that plus on speed and mobility really helps. Sure you die with a side loss but most of the time it is worth it.
Depends on your elo bracket, too. If everyone arms for your side, drop the XL
