I have experienced some Stalkers lately.

It's truely out of balance.

Anyone who says with a straight face the Stalker is fine should be removed from the forums.

The reason is that there's at some point you see the 4N and you can guess what build it carries. Just like the Firestarters were at some point.

A Banshee is more in balance due the hitboxes.

The convergence is not helping either. This is what makes the Stalker 'overpowered'.

I think its OP also. Not as OP as a Timber god or stormcrow, but -20% heat gen is a little silly for a chassis that was already one of the best. When your large lasers have near Medlaser heat, I think you can call for a tweak.

Here's a hint:

If you are not forcing a brawl with a Stalker, you are letting it win.

It's not that complicated.. and people that stay back and hide allow the Stalker to strike without fear.

Like most mechs... leaving any mech (particularly good mechs) to their own devices will allow them to succeed far more often.

I laugh a little when people put forth the idea that the Stalker is overpowered. It is...perfect. In the sweet zone of not garbage and not overboard. The pinnacle of balance that all mechs should strive for. If your favorite mech doesn't perform well against the STalker, you need to asses
1. Your play style/tactics
2. The quality of your build
3. The quality of your mech

If, after some deep soul searching and even headed thought, you can truly eliminate 1 and 2 as issues, then you should be pushing for improvements in regards in number 3, not trying to get the Stalker nerfed.

Addendum: If your mech in question re: #3 is a Stormcrow, Hellbringer, Direwolf, King Crab, Timber Wolf, Dragon 1N, Thunderbolt, Firestarter, Banshee, Zeus, Panther, Jenner, Centurion, Wolverine, Griffin or Hunchback, and you think the problem is #3, then you need to go back and re asses #1 or #2.

And what "weakness" would that be exactly. A 290 with lots of DHS's, a 32% Energy\Weapon specific Heat reductions, crazy CD buffs, More Range 500m -> 600m (sweet spot for battle) near max armor. Can run at 62kph tweaked and even carry AMS if desired.

What's not to like really. Just don't mash the LMB/RMB to much/ LOL!

If you ask that question that means either you never played a Hexa PPC Stalker or never encoutered one. PPc got 90m minimum range... Get in his face, no more Problem he cant shoot you at all. Also the pure awesomeness of that stalker was to go in alpha strike so yeah when it did it took a very long time to cool off which brings me back to the '' get in his face ( while its cooling)''. Dont forget that Quirks werent around when the 6 PPC was trolling.

So yeah D_DC brawler well shoot it from afar.
PPc sniper get in his face.
LRM Boat, same as PPC.
Laser boat well twist that torso.
The mech got a weapon for each range? Well Jack of all trades but master of none, they are harder to manage but potentially the most dangerous.

The only one that causes problemis the gauss boat since it does very well on long and close range.

LOL, they killed the t-bolt, now the Clammers need the next best mech removed....Eventually we will be down to the Urban mech as our only playable IS mech....

I saw one of these Laser Stalkers last night.

I like what I saw. An Assault mech the demanded respect once it started shoot players.

Thought they just get mauled by lights, once they start to open up? :P ;)

I see a LL Stalker in CW, I start to attack it and play hit and run with it in my PIRATES' BANE, It takes a while, but their legs do fall off....

If you don't think half heat ERPPC's is just wrong, then I don't know what to say. They should never have gone down that much, where they are now, is a good place, still strong, but not stupidly too good. That's why you don't see people whining about them anymore.

Not happy with having the Thud 9S nerfed, the campaign continues to beat the IS's few decent Mechs back to the sub-par average.

Meanwhile, Timberwolves and Storm Crows dominate matches with impunity, but noone seems to bother talking about it any more.

I really hope the squeaky wheel doesn't get oiled again.

-shrug- since the JJ fix, Timber's have gotten easier to deal with , as far as I've noticed... then again, they don't like getting hit by IS AC-20's....

Its an assault, it should be good, to compensate for its slow movement.

In CW specifically, long range, no ammo, instant travel weapons are a huge benefit, so of course you see a lot of them there, it doesn't mean they are OP, just good for the task, at the tonnage they take up.

You don't see people whining about them anymore because you don't see anyone playing them anymore, they are garbage now. Can't even run three ppcs anymore, can barely use two. And I kept telling everyone after they get their way with the 9S, they will start whining about something else. And now here we are, expect a 4n nerf soon.

Being able to spam 3 ERPPC's on something that was 15 tons lighter, and only ever carried one in TT, than the mech that was build to spam them and boat them in TT just isn't right.

Sounds about the right way to take one. But I'd have to see if the old 'stay on the side' approach still works with my Atlas-S like it used to with the D-DC.

stalkers are so versatile that i feel hurt everytime i see a boat =(
warhawks the same. some use 4 er ppc but why? it ran crazy hot in lore, in novels, in TT why should it be else here?
2 er ppc + 2 large laser or 2 large pulse laser should work more efficient over time than 4 er ppc D:
imho, putting ghost heat to 3 instead of 2 is not a good thing either.

I agree they're closer to mortal than they used to be... though they're still the single most versatile and toughest Heavy in the game.

Personally I find Storm Crows more difficult to put down - or be put down in - these days.

Incidentally, I play Clan and IS Mechs. So I have a certain dispassionate perspective on the relative capabilities of Mechs.

Still can't see why people insist on fighting a stalker within 600m mid range when you can outrange it or out brawl it. It's not like it's the stalker that decides on the engagement range. :P

My favorite is reading this thread and watching the same pack of rationally-challenged hypocrites go on and on about how you can't approach the Stalker with it's super lasers...

When those same shills can be found in other threads saying how the IS "let's clans win" by not forcing closer engagement ranges in the slower or more fragile, shorter ranged IS mechs.

Really, I have to say this is probably the most amazing group-level of cognitive dissonance I have seen for any game I have ever played.

With the thunderbolt its fair because the hit boxes are average. The stalker takes ct damage and throws it to the sides mean while he is doing 60 point alphas and not heating up a bit. It has no equal at the moment.

you want evidence? ok. Go play a cw match.

Not heating up a bit? a 6 Large Laser alpha puts a Stalker 4N well up into the hot range, something around 60% or more, from 0% heat.

It is slow and it is hulking. And it is pretty good.

Look at the Timberwolf armed with 4 er Mediums and 2 Lg Pulse Lasers and compare it to the Stalker 4N, they have identical 54 point 'alphas' with a similar range envelope. The medium lasers shoot a little shorter than the IS Large Lasers but the Pulse lasers are longer ranged and hit harder. Oh and the Timber moves 30 kph faster than the Stalker and is 10 tons lighter.

Stalker 4N is fine. It is a good mech, but not broken like the Thud 9S erPPC monster.
