What chassis variants in your opinion outperform their Hero equivalents?
My shortlist is:
Firestarter A/H > Ember
Jagermech DD > Firebrand
Cicada 3M > The X-5
Atlas D-DC > The Boar's Head
Awesome (almost every variant) > Pretty Baby
Please add some of yours.

Some of this is role specific.
Pirate's Bay
Oxide
Death's Knell
Huginn
Wang
Grid Iron
Loup de Guerre
(skip the heavies)
Misery
Dragon Slayer
If Heros were meant to be better outright, people would be crying P2W all day every day.

well no,this mech looks only good on paper.
if it had all the missile hardpoints in the torso,it would be very good, even comp level good.

GMan puts it in his T2 for IS. (he has no T1 for IS mediums in comparison to the Stormcrow)
I think his lists decently show whats viable and not. Ive used the builds to good effect.

Not a bad listing but the LCT-1E is better than the Pirate's Bane. Not even close, actually.

LCT-1E > Pirates Bane
DRG-1N > Fang/Flame
RVN-2X > Huginn
CDA-2B/3M > X-5
QKD-5K > IV4
BNC-3E/3M > La Malinche
CTF-3D > Ilya Muromets
BJ-1/1x > The Arror
SDR-all > Anansi
VND-1AA > St. Ives Blues
SHD-2K > Gray Death
... the only Hero's that might at least compete for the best variant...
Oxide
Deaths Knell
Loup de Guerre
Grid Iron
Protector
Dragon Slayer
Yen Lo Wang
... not very many.

No, they're not.
If Hero Mechs were ostensibly better than stock variants, then this game would be "pay to win".
Which it isn't.
In my opinion, the only Hero Mechs which are (accidentally) better than their stock variants are:
- Ilya Murmets. The 3D used to be better thanks to its Jump Jets. But the meta of the past year has favoured the Chainsaw Ilya's sheer DPS capabilities.
- Huggin. Thanks to quirks, it's probably slightly better than the quirked 2X and 3L Just slightly.
- Pirate's Bane. Its weapon loadout is inferior to other variants. But it gets the benefit of ECM.
- Grid Iron. But only after the crazy Gauss quirks, which will no doubt be toned down just after I buy one .
- Jenner Oxide is equal to the F.
- Victor DS is equally uncompetitive as other Victors.
- Yen Lo Wang is eclipsed by the Loyalty AH.
- Misery is still beaten by Stalker 9N and 3F.

Have almost every Hero in game and each one I have found to fit into the game. With exception of ECM giving a mech a good bump in usefulness. Pre quirks there were some real painful Heros but now that quirks are being filtered in really can make each work. Only real limitation is the pilot hero designed for game style your not into well then it will be a very bad purchase option for you.
and Pilot aside add on the boosted credits and well your still going to make more credits with a Hero.

Kintaro > GoldenBoy
(Max Engine Rating on all Kintaros are higher except GB)

Agreed but i was also thinking utility as a ECM boat for CW.
At the moment, E is THE Locust to roll in.

I think some prefer the Misery to the N/F for brawling.

Yep. Makes me sad what they did to the 3M. For my money, the Pirate's Bane is a nigh perfect hero: there's something unique about it that makes it situationally preferable but it's not straight OP. My other favorite example is Sparky. It's good, but also different than the main Griffins.

for me it's also
Cataphract 4X > ILYA MUROMETS ( just my personal opinion but ILYA is second one. )

Brawls? GRF-3M > GRF-1E [Sparky]
Because 4 ASRM4 + 2 MPL 3M is still greater than any form of Pulse Laser boating on the Sparky under 270m.
Medium-range poking? GRF-1E [Sparky] > GRF-3M
There's a reason why the Sparky is known as the IS' own version of Stormcrow laservomit, after all. IS tech, yes, but it has JJs.
So... unsure here.
