LRMs raining down on your enemy is nice, but the information is what's truly valuable here.
Exactly, I targeted a DW and saw that his LT was cherry red and his RT was yellow. Suddenly a lightbulb howered above my head. One shot at the LT and it was gone, then I kept pumping shots in the RT and down he went. R is also invaluable to tell your team that the enemy is in fact there. Don't get hung up on LRM:s only they are only part of it.

if someone starts lerming my target, i lower my fire rate, and when i think its gonna die in a couple shots, i have room in the heat bar for another alpha. lerms aren't exactly very direct, certainly not as good as a 50 point alpha. its kind of like using an lb10 at max range. so the rate at which they damage targets is very low. fight smart and you can keep someone from stealing your kill.
when multiple targets, i will cycle through each one to find the weakest, target something else, and engage the weak one till it dies. that way the lermers have a free target that isnt mine.
holding locks is something i dont like to do as a light, unless im fighting an assault. in which case lerms are very welcome. it messes with their aim, obscures their vision and helps me put holes in its armor. other than that holding requires a lot of face time better spent firing weapons at the enemy, because at least that way i dont have to rely on lerm boats to do damage.
in the rare case that a targets has not actually spotted me, i do hold locks, but this comes at a cost. i will usually rush the target in the last few seconds of its life and try to steal, consider it payment for me giving you a lot of free damage points.

These days with each team having 4 LRM 30 boats I will say that I have learned to strategically use R. Before I would R my target that I was attacking so I would know his info and shoot the proper spot and to often get that kill stolen by the boats. Now I R my target and find his weak point, cycle to the nearest mech that is interfering with my brutal attack and let the LRM's soften him up. When I am finished slaying my target I can now swoop in for the gravey. By targeting something that I am not shooting also gives me a focus point when getting my twist and jump on shedding damage.
I am 100% for removing the current LRM system, reworking it and making it an actual team tool.

Giving your team information about enemy presence on a specific quadrant.
Secondary thing about pressing R.
Getting enemy armor and loadout details. Knowing this will help you defeat the enemy faster.
Least important thing about pressing R.
The amount of LRMs that will fly towards the enemy.
When someone asks to press R (and this shouldn't happen, should be second nature to any mechwarrior pilot) isn't to just get locks and spam missiles. It's all about information!
PGI - Would it be possible to short-circuit a keyboard or mouse when the player doesn't press R? Pretty please?

Novakaine get's his own own target locks.
If you're firing lrm's beyond 250 to 450 meters then you're a dunce anyway.
Get a good LOS on the enemy noob and rain holy fire from the sky on them.
And when they turn toward you bust em the nose with fist full of lasers.
Then run like hell cause you probably don't have the dps to duke it out.
Consequently, just stay close to the brawl pack.
Begging the gits in this game is like herding cats.
Just don't bother.
So just stop begging the gits, it just a waste of time.
Oh thought I'd throw in a definition for the term git.
It's the only civilized thing to do.
Git
1. A completely ignorant, childish person with no manners.
2. A person who feels justified in their callow behavior.
3. A person who thinks it's totally cool to act like a moron on the internet, only because no one can actually reach through the screen and punch their lights out.
"That n00b is behaving like a bloody git."
Novakaine personally likes # 3.
On a side note most of you guys rock and a pleasure to play with
Some of the rest not so much.

Always hit R. Always. Having 1 in 10 kills stolen but winning 1 in 6 more matches means you have more opportunities for more kills and fewer deaths.
Anyone who doesn't consistently use R is never going to reach their potential. You're not holding back "scavengers" or lrms boats. They only see you for the 1 match. You're gimping yourself. Your teams success is your success. Over time opportunities created for your team will enable them to create ones for you.
That's the difference between breakaway success and being average or just ahead of the curve. Evaluate what the results of your performance are, be willing to change to improve and focus on overall success.

IF its a LRM heavy match and the mech is almost dead, NO i will not target it. Wastes time, Brings out the scavengers and very often just distracts the team.
If it is a cluster or semi healthy to healthy mechs or a lone scout yes, please press R.
3 letters......UAV! use em!
Yup a waste of time to hit R but Launching a UAV is no more time consuming obviously so go nuts... go figure...
P.S. You only get 1 40K UAV and as many FREE "R"'s as you want. Wowzers on the whacked logic there.

I hit and Run. I stay in LoS for only long enough to shot once or maybe twice if i feel safe enough.
If i hit R and don't stay in LoS i get complaints. "Keep the Target locked you #%*¤%"
I stay only long enough to get a decent shot at the torso. If i hit the torso or any part i see smoking i've done my part.
I can't get Targeting info module to speed up target info at all since i need those slots for Seismic Sensor and Radar Deprivation to stay alive.
Can't get BAP because my speed is pretty much my firerate. Shot relocate fast and preferably far. 1,5 tons can get me a fair bit of extra speed or JJ's.
I got two recent episodes where hitting R was the worst thing i could have done.
This first episode proves how unreliable LRM boats really are since they cannot advance far into the battle.
"I got no backup weapons. Only LRM's" is their excuse.
Here is another time when hitting R was the worst thing i could have done.
As a matter of fact it took the match from 50/50 odds to us losing the match outright.

There used to be an interesting whine thread about people intentionally NOT hitting R for hating LRM boats... but that's just a bad minority. The general population that doesn't use R are ones that weren't aware of it in the first place.
It's sad.
Gotta call BS on that dude. Can't give PGI a hard time if any player won't take 5 minutes to find the Keyboard Control graphic that has been around "forever". Maybe even check the Keyboard Options Menu in the game ffs. Stop making excuse for the lazy.

uavs are great for a few things. like if you are in a fatty and trying to get a light off of you. or if you suspect there is one or more enemies around a corner or on a high obscured ledge (bog). if you are going to run your ecm light through an enemy formation and drop a uav right over their heads, make damn sure you tell your team ahead of time. you wont have time to do it until at least 30 seconds after you launch because you will be too busy running for your life to tell them (your uav will expire 3 seconds after you press enter on your message too).
do not use a uav in a situation where you can simply press r. like if they dont know you are there, or they are visible on radar because someone else is locked. players are also getting very good at killing uavs lately, so dont use them unless you think they are going to be unaware of its presence or its going to be far enough out of their fov that they probibly wont see it or be able to aim for it without breaking formation.

Also, can anyone confirm this please? Yes or No?
"that short little beep you get that sounds like small bird tweet? That's someone locking on you. I don't remember the visual cue"

What part of it must be built into the game do you not understand?
The Training Grounds is great if you FIND IT, but also KNOW ENGLISH.
There is a strong correlation with all the people that don't understand the mechanics in the game.
We still have people that aren't aware that the Clan ERPPC deals 15 damage, but not strict 15 point damage.
http://mwomercs.com/...c-wrong-damage/
We still have people confused about Camo and how it is applied:
http://mwomercs.com/...lors-confusion/
We still have people thinking using the stock Standard Engine 60 on the Urbie is why they should be complaining about it (not everyone has the realization that the speed of the mech is tied to everything else like torso twisting).
This thread is the actual existence of said problem, and to just say "look for this stuff", sorry.. IT MUST BE EXPLAINED IN GAME, or otherwise we get random ragey complaints about how people got ripped off from spending on camos (thinking it would work on all mechs) or unexplained things that a tutorial should cover.
You can keep making excuses, but the more often that the BASIC understanding of certain things are not made clear, then it will self-replicate into issues about how things work.
