Quick question: I intend on leaving a unit, but promised to ensure they could afford a dropship one day. So I intend a very large payout to my unit (bringing the unit coffers up to estimates of a future dropship) then depart about 2 minutes thereafter. I just wanted to make sure, giving money to the unit coffers is permanent, correct?

It was in a TH or something, they initially were going to use dropships as an actual entity, but instead chose to do what they did.

Yeah, the actual dropship thing may well (well, almost certainly will) change, but the answer to the OP's question (whether unit donations are permanent) is still "Yes", and you can make a reasonable assumption that there will be a very good use for Unit Funds at some point in the (probably reasonably near) future.
Actual dropships? I don't really see how they'd work from a design angle given the game we have now.
