Pve As Balancing Tool.

Just now as I was reading a thread about rating mechs, from epic, to awful.
Someone said "there are too many variables" and it occurred to me, PvE could be a very useful tool for rating mechs effectiveness.
Timed trials, or other single player game modes, where people can upload their results to the website.
See what I'm getting at here?
The best players would obviously have some great numbers on top tier mechs, but there would also be a butt load of info gathered on all mechs.
Rather then people speculating on why this mech is awesome, and this mech is bad, we would have some pretty solid numbers to go with, that had nothing to do with lucky/unlucky drops.

Multiple missions, long missions, many steps, very fun, basically a new MEchwarrior 4 campaign. Storyline, 4 man coop game play. Non meta builds required.
YOu basically make your mech, your buddies make a mech and you play the objectives to win the missions and get to the end.....

I'd rather just have PvE for it's own sake, it'll add so much life to this game....

Age of Conan became a mainly PVE game because players could not stomach PVP even though they proclaimed they could.
Rift became a mainly PVE game because players could not stomach PVP even though they proclaimed they could.
Tera became a mainly PVE game because players could not stomach PVP even though they proclaimed they could.
Now people want MWO to become a mainly PVE game because players could not stomach PVP even though they proclaimed they could.

And I can tolerate seeing Solaris before PvE, in terms of major dev 'arch's. With the current 'arch' being CW.
[likely using the wrong word for 'arch' but can't think of the correct one right now!]

but playing against an AI? Isn't it a downgrade from our current games where we play against thinking humans rather than rule-scripted bots?
The core question would be game modes. PVE may offer more variety like the games of old such as escort becomes a possibility. Using that example, If you think about it though, a real escort game versus humans would have only one result - and that is that the enemy team is willing to risk all to win the match.
If it is a choice between Solaris (against humans) than PVE (against AI), I would take Solaris as what they should focus on.

And Mortal Online stayed a hardcore, intense PvP experience, but was plagued by bugs, lag, and lack of funding.
Man, those of us that just want an amazing PvP-dominant experience, but with extreme persistency, community-driven events/story/plot/etc, and others are fugged.
I'd donate a kidney or a testicle to have a proper 17-18th century pirate or Battletech experience. I'll make do with this one though, but if PGI would use my donated organs to make this dream a reality, well....
I'm listening.

And as far as I understand it, this is the plan.
Solaris is mostly likely to come next, once CW is good to go.

you can't compare a RPG with a FPS when it comes to PVP.
for all the flaws MWO have it's very balanced while Rift of AoC is total sh*t balanced (even in PVE)
Dark Templar can solo Level 80 dungeons while it made for groups
also not sure what you expect from PvE in Mech warrior, seen the turrets then never ever miss

I guess you're right, it IS a bit like apples and oranges here.
Man, when I first put my few bucks into the founder's package, I really envisioned an MMO-esque experience, where CW was the ONLY mode. Some mix between MWLL and Planetside 2, with a persistent world map, meaningful political intrigue, and player/community-driven story.
That sort of game doesn't make money, and is so very difficult to produce. Shame.

Dark Templars ( ) may be able to solo L80 dungeons, but soloing a highly-skilled L80 Barbarian or Assassin is a different proposition altogether. And in an open world PvP furball, player skill still counted more than the class they were playing.

I'd rather MWO have as minimal PVE as possible.

you have a PVE environment called testing ground.

I don't know about you, but when I think of PVE, I expect parts of the environment to try to fight back (i.e. AI opponents). But in MWO's testing ground, only you get to fire anything.

If you've seen some of the people I've had to drop with lately, you'd question if they were really human opponents, and not just bots. LOL

I never proclaimed I could. But right now. after 3 years of playing PvP, I would like to have a story to follow so it feels like I'm getting something done. PvP is to much EPeen.
I just don't understand the whole PvP mentality. Its a bunch of faffing about accomplishing nothing in game.

Also a lot of people here described EVE but it's combat isn't as viceral as MWO's. Since it's ships can be at 100km or more apart.

We could have a lore-based but player-driven story in MWO too via Community Warfare. Yet, after 3 or so years, all we have so far is this highly simplistic "take 8 squares out of 15" "invasion" shell of a game.
In any case, the point I am trying to make is that people play something intended as a mainly PVP game (or game with a major PVP component), discover they're really not as good as they think they are, and start demanding that the game cater to them by making it a mainly PVE game. I really don't want another game I enjoy playing suffer the same fate.

I don't know about other people, but I play PVP games to fight against other people instead of highly-scripted AI. I have enough still-unplayed PVE games in my Steam library to satisfy my PVE inclinations for a while ... and The Witcher 3 is coming out soon.

My take on all of this is that PGI has been so distracted by the demands of the "lowest common denominator" types that PGI has wasted so much time and effort (e.g. Ghost Heat, nerf/buff cycles that have gone full circle, etc.) that even they no longer know what MWO should be.

From what I've seen in PUGLife, I would say we already have heavily scripted, bad AI, that is the hallmark of MechWarrior PC games...
