What gets me is the community has started a thread here with a lot of reasonable concerns and feedback and there is not a Dev in sight to at least acknowledge peoples concerns on their own official forums.

the people that actually work on the game don't have time.
russ doesn't understand how to interact with his customer base.
the community managers are mostly there to pinch-hit for russ and can't do a lot to move things up the ladder.

this is honestly pretty normal for F2P games in my experience.

There is no reason issues can not be acknowledged on these forums by Russ, Tina or the other Devs.
They seem to have all sorts of time for twitter and reddit. therefore they could keep apprised of the goings on with their own forums quite easily. No real excuses here.
This is part of the community managers job and it defaults to Russ should the manager be unavailable.

Great thread, they really need to return to the core foundation of the game and start polishing things off before adding more slop on top of already existing slop.

My wallet has been closed since late 2014 ($300~ invested) and I fear it wont be opening for this game anytime soon.

I did give in and purchased a small MC pack a little over a month ago after a very positive experience with Alex through a support ticket. However, I quickly regret the purchase as my problems and issues have only compounded since then. Especially after the literal month wait for a reply to my support ticket that got lost in the queue.

I still play occasionally and troll the forums from time to time to get my fix. They've just slapped me in the face too many times even since the split with IGP for me to continue funding a game that's developed at a snails pace with very poor quality control.

I dislike talking negative about this game. I love the franchise and respect a lot of the people working behind the scenes. However, the cons are starting to heavily outweigh the pros of the game and the only way for me to voice my opinion is by not funding the game in its current state.

There are lots of reasons folks have concerns with PGI, their design decisions and planned direction.

However, I have to take issue a bit with the "Glowing Atlas Eyes" ... it was in at one point in closed beta if I recall and was removed ... not for technical reasons, not because it didn't look cool ... but because it gave a very clear and well defined aiming point for head shots.

The head shot hit box on an Atlas corresponds to the eye. Having a glowing eye makes it much, much easier to head shot the mech ... and that is why the glow was removed.

I, for one, do not want it back due to that issue. It looks cool but suddenly every Atlas pilot is at a disadvantage as a result if PGI listens to folks shouting for glowing Atlas eyes. As far as I recall, this issue was discussed and addressed by PGI years ago ... so I can easily see why Russ might say there were no more questions ... since demands for glowing Atlas eyes is a question that was addressed years ago.

Trying to implement the eyes as some sort of toggle switch was also requested ... but it is way too much coding for one mech if it is even possible at all.

As long as the price isn't outlandish like the clan mechs, I will probably pre-order this pack in the hopes that they use my/our money to hire a programmer or 2 competent enough to make improvements to the core of the game...

In itself this is not a bad train of thought. But it begs a follow up question.

Hire a couple of new programers to do what?
More of the same?

This goes in the same direction someone else had said.
There is an incredible lack of vision for this game.
And if PGI really had a vision, they are utterly incompetent at communicating said vision.

At least I have never come upon info that speaks about grand plans for the future. About scale and depth.
About what PGI wants this game to be in the end.
Just "fix this" "adjust that" and "we´ll look into that" if prodded sufficiently persistent.

There is a lot that can be done with this game, I have only given them about 60$ back in 2013. My short list before I give them any more money:
  • an actual in-game tutorial, wiki like section
  • actually useful tooltips
  • being able to drop in training grounds with others
  • Steam release
As noted above there are other things they need to keep moving on but the above is my short list before I do anything with real money like buying a Hero mech.

Forgot to add...there is competition on the horizon. Maybe not BT based but very similar.

Regarding Red eyes - head shot nonsense:

What is complete nonsense - at ranges where you were able to see the "glowing" eye before the Mech - no weapon in the past arsenal had enough fire power to blast the cockpit open with 1 shot. And i can't even remember to get killed by a head shot in an Atlas
Average head cap distance for the Atlas was about <500m (or at least that was the distance i was capable of) - currently the head hitboxes are tiny - i have even problems to find them. (CLuster - SRM rounds into the head region an no registered hit on the head) - so glowing eyes (will not reduce the survivability of the Atlas)

But i have 100% agree to the OP.
MWO is lacking the love for details - and shows a clear failure of quality management. (Tukkayid not on 1stMay; missing actuators, different missile tube sizes, random numbers of hardpoints, random quirks, bad map colors, random module slot sizes - when i say random you should read: for no existing reason)

It was worse in the past of course (3PV; island statement) - but we are not that far away from this point.

Whether or not I buy any of the Resistance 2 will be determined on whether I like what I see.

Apparently, Resistance pack 2 is on its way and will be available for sale May 1st. I guess PGI will follow its winning recipe of 4 mechs + 1 loyalty mech, available for 20 / 40 / 60 / 80 dollars. (Edited)

I'm not going to ask anyone to buy or tell anyone not to buy, but I would just like to point out that this is the best possible time to vote with your wallet. If you want to send a message to PGI, I think this is the best time. Because this is the moment when a lot of people make the decision whether or not to buy, and this is the moment when PGI is paying close attention.

If you buy, I think this is the best time to tweet PGI and tell them that you're buying their product, and why. And if you don't buy, I think this is the best time to tweet PGI and tell them why you're not buying.

The reason I bring this up, is because there's some discontent on the forum. Granted, there's always some discontent and the actual source of discontent varies a little bit over time, but it seems to me that more and more people are starting to become aware of the decline in graphics and sound. I'm talking about...
  • Low quality mech textures (e.g. camo patterns)
  • Ugly damage textures
  • Removing inverse kinematics (mechs matching the angle of their feet with the terrain)
  • Less dramatic visual effects for death (e.g. less glowing metal, less visible ammo explosions)
  • No working cockpit screens (Never saw them. Removed in CB, I'm told)
  • Missiles with spiralling flight paths
  • The changes from dynamic geometry. The CPLT used to look like this. Now it looks like this. And don't get me started on the CTF or CN9 or Jagermech. Just check out this thread.
  • The changes to sound effects, many of which were quite unpopular. Especially the ballistics sounds, but many people feel that old PPC and SRM/LRM sounds were also better.
  • Atlas glowing eyes.
And that's just graphics and sound. I'm not talking about any of the other stuff that people miss from CB. But I'm sure you know the stuff that would go on that list too. Personally, I would like to see PGI fix some old nagging issues before we march on to CW phase 3 and 4. You may agree with those issues, or you may be more concerned about other things entirely.

I'm not starting this thread just as a random weekly rant (although that would be pretty cool). As someone who has spent hundreds of dollars on MWO, I encourage everyone to keep buying stuff if you're happy with the product and/or want to show your appreciation of what PGI is doing with MWO. I'm not going to talk anyone out of buying Resistance Pack 2. And as someone who got into the game relatively early, it's not a big deal for me personally if I'm skipping a mech pack or two, but I understand that the early grab deals are great value for money for new players. So I'm not here to talk anyone out of anything.

I am starting this thread because there's a lot of people expressing discontent about certain elements in MWO that are actually declining (especially graphics and sound) instead of progressing, and that's something PGI doesn't seem to take seriously. So if you are truly concerned about those issues, I encourage you to use this special moment in time to vote with your wallet. Don't just write some sarcastic posts about it on the forum. Walk the walk.

And if you really want to send a message, maybe start some kind of viral Twitter hashtag. Like #atlasglowingeyes or #theybrokemywang.

TL;DR: The moment PGI comes out with a new mech pack, it's kind of a big deal. It's a good time to either show your support or to send a message about stuff you're not happy with.

Check out this thread for tips on how to get Russ' attention on Twitter. :D

Om glad about the atlas eyes going away. Getting headshot on Forest before you can see the enemy wa a *****

Probably this will sound negative but it is true, I just gave up my hopes on MWO.

It would be a good idea if those people liking ECM, ghost heat/tonnage/structure/whatever, 3PV, consumables, QUIRKs, cramped maps, bugs and all the other similar "unique MWO features" start paying for the game.

After supporting the game by purchasing all packs, now I am fed up with it and my wallet is on strike. I have enough stuff to play with until it lasts.

The stated level of Development and quality by PGI is A Minimally viable product. so everything your talking about is simply not more important than items that drive income.
CW is perceived to be the best path to success.. What will be a significant development is layoffs shortly after the completion of CW. I would have gone in a completely different direction

Circle error probable or cone of fire/COF for short would have solved many balance issues. ECM 1 makes lock on times longer by 25%, ECM 2 or 3 are 50%, 75% respectively.
Armor cofactor derived from a model describing the interaction between mech size/speed.
AI for 1-4 player missions purchased with real money. Rewards proportional to mission success and difficulty level, top prize being new mechs. Player made mission/map editor. i can easily list 5-6 people on this forum that would go nuts with a player made mission generator. Sell each mission at mech prices.... content is your money maker.
Once AI is working you can move to a grand campaign simulating the IS succession wars ultimately the clan invasion.

Just my 2 cents but i have been voteing with my wallet since Russ told us to use our founders premium time only when the game reaches our desired level of quality - still waiting -

Graphics, balance, etc. all pale next to the one simple fact for me: I'm bored with MWO and burnt out on leveling new mechs.

I loved the Urbies, otherwise I haven't even played some of my Zeus and Grasshopper chassis, and I didn't play a single match for the Battle of Tuk event. I'm just really sick of the same maps and solo queue game types, CW has completely failed to grab my interest, and there's already more than enough mechs to go around. This game needs something more compelling to keep my attention.

PS Already bought some Wave III mechs, will try to get back into MWO when they come out. I have no intention of buying anything else until then.

I bought the arctic cheetah because PGI has displayed that it wants to be a good developer and MORE IMPORTANTLY

Most importantly.

The people in their support staff, the people you email if you have a problem.

Have been the most helpful people I have ever talked to about game issues,

so understanding, so polite and so willing to help you.

I bought it for them really.

Last I checked there are PLENTY of GOLD Clan mechs still to go around!

Actually, that's a good point. Why aren't there any Gold mechs to buy for Resistance mechs? I'd imagine there'd be a sea of Gold IS mechs in CW were that the case...

I was very impressed with PGI's performance in the last several months of 2014.

I haven't been as impressed with things since the start of 2015, excepting the Urbanmech, which was a nice surprise.

As of right now, I don't see purchasing another PGI 'mech pack as a good investment. CW isn't fun, and doesn't seem to be improving much at all. The rest of the game is quite stale. Many aspects of the game seem to be declining in quality instead of improving, and I don't see that this title is in any way ready for Steam, or any influx of new players.

I do like MWO, and enjoy playing it (for the most part), but it's wearing thin. I'd very much like for them to give me a reason to be excited about playing the game, and to be excited to purchase and play new 'mechs within it. Currently, I don't have that.

I like the progress I have seen so my vote is YES to R2 pack.

I can see so much potential for improvement, but there isn't anything else out there right now that I want more. Almost sad that a F2P is providing me with the most compelling gaming experience and has been for years. AAA gaming is a wasteland.
