Honestly, the Trebuchet wouldn't be so fragile if it weren't so WIDE. Its height doesn't help, but it's really the enormous billboard STs and paddle-arms that make it as weak as it is. Were it to be made thinner, its durability would increase noticeably. This, of course, is the same issue that plagues 90% of MWO's in-game models...

I don't believe the Trebuchet is wide... I mean the NOVA is wide (and I consider that better than the Trebuchet easily). It's arms are straight up low and most of the firepower is Kintaro-like (most weapons are on the arms), so it's really easy to disable comparatively speaking.

Have you met the Trebuchet?

Despite the Vindicator being the worst Medium, the Trebuchet is not far behind (even the Kintaro has a role.. the Trebuchet? lol no).

Mind you, I have this personal love-hate relationship with the 5J, but the Trebuchet is generally irrelevant in the grand scheme of things (Enforcer is more or less superior to the Trebuchet-7K if you don't need missile hardpoints).

But the trebuchets' problems are not because of height, they're because of:

A: Primary firepower in ABSURDLY huge arms
B: Very tall, and a need to expose a huge amount of geometry in order to bring weapons to bear.

Height isn't a problem when your hardpoints are literally on top of the mech.

While true, but I've mistaken them before for Highlanders.

Despite Hoverjets™, the Highlander is worth my attention... the Trebuchet... not so much (it's the Warhawk-Direwolf phenomenon).

hah yeah, not to disparage the Warhawk which is an entirely usable mech but I often mistake them for DWF's at range as well and overreact :)

But nobody wants the CB to be shorter because it'd be an advantage. Well, perhaps some do. But reading the comments here makes it clear that most people want the CB to be shorter because that's what it's supposed to be, not because of any perceived advantage it would receive.

Fair enough, and there's no real argument to that. *shrugs* To each their own, I guess. I like it as it is, and would like it shorter too. I don't really care; just that the end result looks awesome. And (to me) it definitely does. I'm glad I sprang for it.

The only good thing the Trebuchet has going for it is that it can spit out LRM15s really fast. But it's only 2 of them. But the HBK-4J is better with it's 10s.

Feel Even better I didn't order

Russ' tweeted today it's going to be "much more squat" - those 'mechs are worth every penny of the $90 I spent for the full package :)

I just picked up the $90 pack for my alt account. With the exception of the assault, all these wave III mechs look great.

Worst thing about the CB is that the AC20 it carries doesnt have the same level of OMGOUCH that it should have.

203mm U-AC shouldn't be a burst fire

It doesn't look as good as the concept art, heres my proposed change:

Ideallly i think it would look better if they increased the size of the fuselage but i think the above edit would really easy to whip up in their 3d editing software

Looks like a perspective thing to me.

It actually looks pretty consistent with the concept art to me.

Frankly I'm more worried about that massive hip it has. Twist and shield your upper torso as much as you like; that hunk of metal is going to get focused down.

No Auto cannon should be burst fire. Just because they fire "streams of high explosive shells" doesnt mean burst fire. How about Auto loaders firing the shell significantly faster then a human loader? Maybe thats what TT is on about.

CUz there is no way you can even get 203mm shells to burst as fast as they do in MWO...There are 100mm Repeating Naval cannons, but they sure as **** dont "burst fire".

PGI just needs to make CUACs single fire with faster cool downs and maybe a chance to jam....

Yeah, I didn't like the concept art, either. IMO (and that's all it is) these are Alex's least inspired designs. The Executioner is pretty sweet, the Arctic Cheetah is (again, IMO) downright dreadful, and the Kitty and Born are MEH at best...with horrid legs.

Hence...I guess I shouldn't care because I didn't order it. Of course, had I liked what I saw, I might have.

Eh. I never take these DOA things seriously. I reserve that for when the mech is actually usable.

I think the Cauldron Born is the best looking Clan mech thus far, based solely on the concept art. It looks menacing to me and FAR more impressive than the Timby. But yeah, a real Cauldron Born would look like a slapped together mutant.

Then again I am a complete sucker for non-humanoid bots (this is why I got me a Crab pack, the legs on that look SICK, I hope they make it be Cicada - level sexy) and was eagerly awaiting the Shadow Cat. Now that it has arrived, I'm slightly disappointed that it looks so ... clean and docile. It looks as a mech of its size should but ... that's not what the "Scat" is famous for.
