Would 4xLRM10 be an option at all? I don't have much experience LRM boating on medium mechs. I know that you save 2 tons running 2xLRM15+2xLRM5, but I'm wondering if 4xLRM10 would have a tighter spread and better DPS. Then again, there's Ghost heat with 4xLRM10, isn't there?

I'm kind of tempted to just run 2xLRM10A, LPL and ML as the ultimate vanilla build. Hell, I may even end up running it with an ER PPC, just because it looks so good.

That's what annoys me the most about GRF-2N. I think it's the most badass looking medium mech in the game. It looks like the sexy lovechild of a Griffin and a Hunchback IIC, which are two of the most badass looking medium mechs in Battletech to begin with. Really sucks that it won't be available for C-bills untill June. And it has both ECM and jump jets. God help me.

I don't know... ask someone who lurms more.

Just to explain things..

All of the Griffins with the missile rack have a missile rack configuration of (20 for large missile rack, 10 for the rest).

The Griffin-2N would be projected to have a missile rack (based on the legomech construction rules) to be...
Left Torso: (20, 10)
Right Torso: (20, 10)

This would make the already lurm-friendly boat even better... with ECM to boot. Essentially, the Griffin-3M is going to be obsoleted with the exception for an SRM boat that is limited to one side torso (better convergence)... but then again... Magic Jesus Box.

Kinda mediocre build:

Ghetto Griffin 2N

That's basically my Stormcrow cash grab build, and it works really well. Of course the CERLL have significantly greater range than the ISLL, and the Stormcrow can carry more ammo, but the Griffin will have ECM.

Mobile LRM platforms are really useful in the PUG queues. (Nothing "LRM" is useful competitively, so don't even go there.) Mobile invisible LRM platforms are amazing.

Well... I still see the LRM Atlas D-DCs and facepalm.... :(

At least the Griffin-2N is a better excuse for that... but still... bleh.

eh, even with JJs and ECM, the HBK-4J is still hands down the best Medium LRM boat. This is a short range brawler and flanker

Which points back to somewhere I'm no longer standing.

The "invisible" part allows you to get your own locks without the enemy getting a Dorito over your head while you're getting them. But like any good sniper, you shoot & scoot. By the time they turn around I'm back behind cover on my way to a new firing position.

I think its worse than the 3M, and not worth the advantage of ECM.

Because

missile spread will be worse, unless you only run two srm racks, which is less alpha

It isn't that terrible having played the WVR-7K as a splat build to compare against and you have the bonus of being able to hill poke with SRMs as limited in usefulness as that is, the biggest problem is the increased size of your side torso hit boxes.

Judging from the UpgradeTypes.xml, artemis gives a 33% reduction in spread.

No Artemis missileSpread is set at 1.0 while with artemis is set at 0.66.

I was thinking on that, but... it doesn't have any quirks worth mentioning. IS medium mechs don't work very well as LRM boats, because LRMs are too heavy to boat. Is the ECM really worth the lack of cooldown and heat reduction quirks for LRMs?

You can slap on 4 LRM5s as an harassment weapon, but what will your main weapons be? 2 large lasers?

My experience with LRM Shawks and LRM Wolvie disagree. Mediums are actually one of the best class for LRM boating for the IS. Slap 3xLRM10s on most 55 ton mechs that have the hard points, and they will deal respectable mid range suppression damage with sustained fire, while staying out of trouble. A couple of MLs for back up.

The biggest issue is ultimately not the mech--but LRM itself. Not simply because it is too heavy, which it is, but because LRM is so damn situational and weak in current form. I simply cannot find another weapon as weak as it while weighing so much, and requiring additional tonnage and space for TAG/BAP to function.

I might run LRM5s, but likely be SRMs of some sort.

I love the Griffins, and will buy this.

the Hunchback 4J works very well with 2 lrm10 2ml and tag, so while the ecm and the ppc take weight, it shouldn't be to disasterous a build, other than that

The 4J has godly LRM10 quirks. That thing is a beast and near ripple-fires the 10s. This won't have that.

Quote

for the pros a 4xsrm 4 or asram6 with energy weapons

Likely this; it'll be good to be quick and the ECM will be handy to get those mobile suprirse alphas.

I will probably try to do 4 SRM6, 2 MPL or something with an XL 300, 13 DHS, ECM and 1 JJ.
Don't think there is room to put SRM 6s with artemis

While the 2N certainly appeals to the light/medium pilot in me, all I saw in that giant list was YET ANOTHER LOCUST that I am contractually required to elite.

Dammit.

It's only in the GIFT STORE on the website.

Well, at least I called the hardpoints.

The true question is how does the ECM Griffin compare to the ECM Shadow Cat?

The 2 mpl 4xsrm4 everything else stock seems pretty good. 3 1/2 tons of ammo decent speed and manueverability at unbasiced level is quite nice. Seems like it will level very well.
